Reminders:

1). Please continue to check the website each day; homework and exams are tentative. Thank you!

 2). Novels must be completed by Monday, October 16th.  

 

Grade 5- This week, the students will be identifying vocabulary words that come from the biography: Leonardos Horse by Jean Fritz which can be found in their Reading Street book. They will be reading: “The Called It the Renaissance” and using context clues to develop meanings for the words; we will then be coming up with a class definition for each word; the students will be writing their own sentences using the words. Next, they will be reading the biography that is based on the life of Leonardo da Vinci.  The students will be reading the biography as a class and will be summarizing and answering various comprehension questions with groups and independently. They will also be writing a during reading prediction using their vocabulary words. 

Monday, September 25th- 1). Make sure your sentences are completed from class today using the vocabulary words! 2). Read for 20 minutes; no written reading log is required today. 

Tuesday, September 26th-  1). Summarize what we read today in class from Leonardos Horse. 2). Make sure the comprehension questions are completed. 

Wednesday, September 27th- 1). Make sure your prediction is completed from class today. 2). Be sure your reading log is completed!

Thursday, September 28th- 1). Pretend you are Leonardo da Vinci.  Write a diary entry using details from the story. What do you think he would include in his diary entry? Give details! 2). Make sure questions from class are completed.

Grade 6-This week, the students will be identifying vocabulary words from the historical fiction story: Old Yeller by Fred Gibson which can be found in their Reading Street book. They will be reading a passage titled: “A Best Friend” and using context clues to develop a meaning for each vocabulary word; we will then be coming up with a class definition. They will then be creating sentences and riddles for each word. Next, the students will then be reading the story, “Old Yeller” as a class; they will be summarizing what they read and answering various reading comprehension questions with groups and independently. They will also be writing a during reading prediction using their vocabulary words.

Tentative Homework/Exams:

Monday, September 25th- 1). Be sure riddles and sentences from class are completed (Vocabulary from Old Yeller) 2). Read for 20 minutes; no written reading log is required.

Tuesday, September 26th- 1). Summarize what we read today; use some of the vocabulary-remember do not write your opinion. 2). Be sure comprehension questions from class are completed as well. 

Wednesday, September 27th- 1). Make sure your prediction is completed from class today. 2). Be sure your reading log is completed!

Thursday, September 28th- 1). Be sure comprehension questions from class and summary are completed.

Grade 7– This week, the students will be identifying vocabulary words, writing sentences with each word,  and reading the story: Two Kinds from The Joy Luck Club by Amy Tan. The story focuses on the relationship of Amy as a young girl and her mother; the students will be working on various comprehension questions throughout the reading-with groups and independently- and they will also be writing a during reading prediction using their vocabulary words. 

Religion– This week, the students will be taking on exam on Chapter 1-“The Source of All Life”. Next, they will be focusing on Chapter 2: The Truth Revealed.  We will be discussing ways that we find truth in our lives, how Scripture and Tradition reveal the truth, and how the truth is written in Scripture.  Lastly, we will be discussing family Traditions, how truth is handed down in Tradition, and how the Church lives by the truth. 

Tentative Homework/Exams:

Monday, September 25th- 1). Be sure sentences from class are completed (Vocabulary from “Two Kinds”); be sure the words are highlighted within the sentences. 2). Read for 20 minutes; no written reading log is required.

Tuesday, September 26th- 1). Be sure comprehension questions from class are completed today. 2). If you needed to, rewrite your sentences over with the corrections-be sure to add the details in them where I indicated they needed to be!!! 3). Get your Religion Exam signed and corrected!

Wednesday, September 27th- 1). Make sure your prediction is completed from class today. 2). Be sure your reading log is completed!

Thursday, September 28th- 1). Pretend you are Amy or her mother.   Write a diary entry from her point of view.  What do you think she would say? Be detailed! Be sure you are using 7th grade vocabulary; this should be typed or neatly written. 2). Be sure questions are completed from class today.

Essay Exam-Two Kinds- Tuesday, October 3rd (You will be able to use your reader to answer the essay question.)

 

Grade 8– This week, the students will be identifying vocabulary words, writing sentences with each word, and reading the classic short story: The Tell-Tale Heart by Edgar Allen Poe. They will be discussing the narrators feelings towards the innocent man in the story.  The students will be answering various reading comprehension questions in groups and independently, and they will also be writing a during reading prediction using their vocabulary words. 

Monday, September 25th- 1). Be sure sentences from class are completed today-highlight the word within the sentence. (Vocabulary from “The Tell-Tale Heart”). 2). Read for 20 minutes; no written reading log is required. 

Tuesday, September 26th- 1). Summarize what we read today from “The Tell-Tale Heart”; include vocabulary words! 2). Make sure the reading comprehension questions are completed from class. 

Wednesday, September 27th- 1). Make sure your prediction is completed from class today. 2). Be sure your reading log is completed!

Thursday, September 28th- 1). Choose one of the characters from The Tell-Tale Heart; write a diary entry from their perspective using details from the story; use vocabulary words in your entry! 2). Be sure questions are completed from class today.
