Week of September 18th-September 25th

Reminders:

1). 10:00 a.m. Mass on Sunday, September 17th; we will then be having our ribbon ceremony for our school name change-Our Lady of Grace Catholic Academy!

2). Please check the website each day since homework and exams are tentative! Thank you!

 

Grade 5- This week, the students will be playing Jeopardy and taking an exam on Unit 1 Vocabulary.  Next, they will be working in their Ready New York English Language Arts book. They will be reading different types of texts and comparing and contrasting characters in drama.  They will be using details in a drama to describe characters and identifying a characters qualities, motivations, and feelings.  Lastly, the students will describe how characters change from the beginning and the end and use details to compare and contrast characters motivations, feelings, and behaviors.  

Tentative Homework/Testing Schedule:

Monday, September 18th: 1). Read for 20 minutes; no written reading log is required. 2). Study for Spelling/Vocabulary Unit 1 Exam!

Tuesday, September 19th: 1). Be sure you read for 20 minutes today!

Wednesday, September 20th: 1). Ready New York CCLS English Language Arts book pages 56-57-“Cornelia and Her Jewels”; be sure to complete the Close Reading on page 56.  Make sure you are using at least two details in your written response! 2). Get your Spelling/Vocabulary Exam signed and corrected. (Spelling words that were incorrect must be written 3X each, incorrect questions must be re-written with the correct answer, and re-write Part 5 with the corrections.)

Thursday, September 21st: 1). 1). Be sure your reading log is completed from today!

Grade 6- * Make sure your 20 Jeopardy questions are completed for Monday!* This week, the students will be playing Jeopardy and taking an exam on Unit 1 Spelling/Vocabulary. Next, the students will be working in their Ready New York CCLS English Language Arts book. The students will be determining the central idea of a text.  They will also be identifying how a central idea of a text is conveyed through particular details.

Monday, September 18th: 1). Read for 20 minutes; no written reading log is required. 2). Study for Spelling/Vocabulary Unit 1 Exam!

Tuesday, September 19th: 1). Be sure you read for 20 minutes today!

Wednesday, September 20th: 1). Ready New York CCLS English Language Arts book pages 6-7: “The Corpse Flower”; be sure to complete the Close Reading on page 7.  Make sure you are using at least two details in your written response to support your answer! 2). Get your Unit 1 Spelling/Vocabulary Exam signed and corrected.

Grade 7- * Make sure your 20 Jeopardy questions are completed for Monday!* This week, the students will be playing Jeopardy and taking an exam on Unit 1 Vocabulary. Next, the students will be working in their Ready New York English Language Arts book.   They will be identifying the central ideas in an informational text and the important details that support these ideas.  They will also be summarizing an informational text by restating in ones own words the central ideas and important details.  Lastly, they will be providing an objective summary free of personal opinions for judgments. 

Religion– The students will continue working on Chapter 1:The Source of All Life; they will be outlining the rest of the chapter and working on the chapter review with a partner; lastly, they will playing creating Jeopardy questions and playing the game on Friday.  Their exam has been moved to Monday, September 25th. 

Tentative Homework/Testing Schedule:

Monday, September 18th: 1). Read for 20 minutes; no written reading log is required. 2). Study for Spelling/Vocabulary Unit 1 Exam!

Tuesday, September 19th: 1). Be sure you read for 20 minutes today! 2). Religion-Make sure your questions from class today based on pages 16-17 are completed!

Wednesday, September 20th: 1). Ready New York CCLS English Language Arts pages 14-15-“Kudzu: From Pretty Vine to Invasive Pest”; be sure to complete the Close Reading on page 14.  Make sure you are using at least three details in your written response! 2). Get your Unit 1 Spelling/Vocabulary Exam signed and corrected.

Thursday, September 21st: 1). Make sure 20 Jeopardy Questions for Chapter 1 in Religion are completed; we are playing Jeopardy tomorrow! Test will be on Monday! 2). Make sure your reading log is completed from today.

Grade 8*Make sure your 20 Jeopardy questions are completed for Monday!* This week, the students will be playing Jeopardy and taking an exam on Unit 1 Vocabulary. Next, the students will be working in their Ready New York English Language Arts book.  They will be determining the central idea of an informational text. Next, they will be analyzing how facts, details, and other evidence develop a central idea. Lastly, they will be analyzing the relationship between a central idea and supporting details. 

Tentative Homework/Testing Schedule:

Monday, September 18th: 1). Read for 20 minutes; no written reading log is required. 2). Study for Spelling/Vocabulary Unit 1 Exam!

Tuesday, September 19th: 1). Be sure you read for 20 minutes today! 2). Get Unit 1 Spelling/Vocabulary Exam signed and corrected!
