Week of September 30th-October 4th

Reminders:

~ Tuition payments are due.

3). Wednesday, October 2nd…

~There is a Ladies Night Out meeting @ 7:30 p.m.-Lenny’s.

Grade 5- This week, the students will be Jeopardy questions based on Unit 1 words; they will be developing various questions based on Unit 1 words; this will also be used as a study guide for them.  The students will be playing “Basketball Jeopardy” to review Unit 1 and taking an exam on this unit.  Lastly, the students will be receiving a spelling list with some commonly 5th grade misspelled words; they will be working with a partner or group to develop a creative story using the words. 

Tentative Homework/Testing Schedule:

Monday, September 30th- 1). Finish writing your Jeopardy questions for class; tomorrow we will be playing “Basketball Jeopardy” to review Unit 1 words. Your vocabulary/spelling exam is on Wednesday! 2). Read for 20 minutes; no written reading log is required.

Tuesday, October 1st- 1). Study! Unit 1 Vocabulary/Spelling Exam is tomorrow; be sure to know each word’s part of speech, synonyms, antonyms, and definitions. 2). Be sure your reading log is completed from SSR.

Wednesday, October 2nd- 1). Be sure your reading log is completed from SSR.

Thursday, October 3rd- 1). Write the spelling words 3 x each.           2). Read for 20 minutes; no written reading log is required. 

Upcoming Exam: Unit 1 Spelling/ Vocabulary Exam: Wednesday, October 2nd / “Basketball Jeopardy”-Tuesday, October 1st. 

 

Grade 6- This week, the students will be working on a writing activity based on Unit 1 words; they will be reviewing the <first-person narrative>, “City of Gold” and pretend they themselves are traveling with traders.  They must develop a journal entry, using at least three vocabulary words in their writing-discussing what excites and worries them as they travel to Timbuktu. Next, the students will be playing “Basketball Jeopardy” to review Unit 1 and taking an exam on this unit.  Lastly, the students will be receiving a spelling list with some commonly 6th grade misspelled words; they will be working with a partner or group to develop a creative story using the words. 

Tentative Homework/Testing Schedule:

Monday, September 30th- 1). Finish writing your rough draft of your journal entry; edit and revise your work with a different color pen; neatly write or type your final draft for Wednesday. Tomorrow we will be playing “Basketball Jeopardy” to review Unit 1 words. Your vocabulary/spelling exam is on Wednesday! 2). Read for 20 minutes; no written reading log is required.

Grade 7- This week, the students will be working on a writing activity based on Unit 1 words; they will be discussing qualities or personality traits that make a person successful. They will be listing special qualities and developing a rough draft of an essay defining success and describing at least three qualities a person needs in order to achieve it. They will also be incorporating at least three vocabulary words in their writing. The students will be playing “Basketball Jeopardy” to review Unit 1 and taking an exam on this unit.  Lastly, the students will be receiving a spelling list with some commonly 7th grade misspelled words; they will be working with a partner or group to develop a creative story using the words. 

Religion- This week, the students will be reading, highlighting, and answering questions based on how God gives us the gift of faith and how the Church gives witness to God’s presence. The students will also be reading and having a discussion about Saint Paul. 

Tentative Homework/Testing Schedule:

Monday, September 30th- 1). Finish writing your rough draft of your essay-“What Makes a Person Successful?”; use a different color pen to edit and revise your work; your final draft is due own Wednesday; tomorrow we will be playing “Basketball Jeopardy” to review Unit 1 words. Your vocabulary/spelling exam is on Wednesday! 2). Read for 20 minutes; no written reading log is required.

Grade 8- This week, the students will be working on a writing activity that focuses on teens and if they should or shouldn’t be expected to pitch in by either: getting a job, doing chores, or volunteer work. The students will be listing pros and cons with their classmates; then, they will be writing a rough draft of a brief essay in which they support their opinion with specific examples and/or observations. Next, the students will be playing “Basketball Jeopardy” to review Unit 1 and taking an exam on this unit.  Lastly, the students will be receiving a spelling list with some commonly misspelled 8th grade words; they will be working with a partner or group to develop a creative story using the words.
