Week of September 16th-September 20th

Reminders:

1). Grades 5-8 will attend 8:30 a.m. Mass on Monday.

2). Back to School Night will be taking place on Thursday, September 19th at 7:00 p.m.

3). There will be a Band Assembly on Friday, September 20th.  There will be no SSR on this day due to this event.

 

Grade 5- This week, the students will continue working on Reader Response questions based on the play, Wings for the King; they will be playing “Basketball Jeopardy” and taking an exam on this play as well.  Next, the students will be working in their Ready New York CCLS English Language Arts book. They will be identifying two or more main ideas in a text and explaining how two or more main ideas are supported by key details in a text. Lastly, they will be identifying which details support which main idea.

Tentative Homework/Testing Schedule:

Monday, September 16th- 1). Review the vocabulary and questions from Wings for the King; we will be playing “Basketball Jeopardy” tomorrow! 2). Read for 20 minutes; no written reading log is required. 3). Make sure the “Reader Response” questions are completed!

Tuesday, September 17th- 1). Study! Exam tomorrow on Wings for the King. 2). Be sure your reading log is completed from SSR. 

Wednesday, September 18th- 1). Be sure your reading log is completed from SSR.

Thursday, September 19th- 1). Read for 20 minutes; no written reading log is required.

Upcoming Exam: Wednesday, September 18th- Wings for the King; review the vocabulary words and questions from class.  We will be playing “Basketball Jeopardy” on Tuesday, September 17th.

 

Grade 6- This week, the students will be working on Reader Response questions based on the play, Elizabeth Blackwell: Medical Pioneer from Ms. Courageous: Women of Science; they will be playing “Basketball Jeopardy” and taking an exam on this play as well.  Next, the students will be working in their Ready New York CCLS English Language Arts book. They will be determining the central idea of a text and identifying how a central idea is conveyed through particular details.

Grade 7- This week, the students will be completing their diary entry based on the short story “Two Kinds”; they will be taking an essay exam on this story as well. Next, the students will be working in their Ready New York CCLS English Language Arts books. They will be determining two or more stated or implied central ideas of an informational text and analyzing how facts, details, and other evidence develop a central idea. 

Religion- This week, the students will continue focusing on Chapter 1: “The Source of All Life”.  They will be reading and discussing how God created us got know him and how God made himself known.  They will also be discussing how God gives us faith and how the Church gives witness to God’s presence. Lastly, the students will be reading about St. Paul and completing the chapter review.

Monday, September 16th- 1). Essay Exam tomorrow on “Two Kinds”; you will be able to use your reader, vocabulary handout, and thesaurus. 2). Make sure the final draft of your diary entry is completed.3). Read for 20 minutes; no written reading log is required.

Tuesday, September 17th- 1).  Be sure your reading log is completed from SSR. 2). Finish outlining pages 14-15 in your religion book; don’t forget to complete the activities, too. 

Wednesday, September 18th- 1). Be sure your reading log is completed from SSR.

Thursday, September 19th- 1). Read for 20 minutes; no written reading log is required.

Grade 8- This week, the students will be completing their diary entry based on the short story “The Tell-Tale Heart””; they will be taking an essay exam on this story as well. Next, the students will be working in their Ready New York CCLS English Language Arts books. They will be determining the central ideal of an informational text. Next, they will be analyzing how facts, details, and other evidence develop a central idea and analyzing the relationship between a central idea and supporting details.
