Week of October 7th-October 11th

Reminders:

1). There will be a Rosary Rally on Monday, October 7th, in the church; parents are welcome to attend!

2). Students may wear a blue shirt on Monday, October 7th, in honor of World Day of Bullying Prevention!

3). The first band session will be taking place on Tuesday, October 8th.

4). There will be no school on Monday, October 14th-Columbus Day.

5). School will resume on Tuesday, October 15th; The TerraNova exam will begin this day. 

6).GRADES 5-8 WILL BEGIN BOOK REPORT PROJECTS THE WEEK OF OCTOBER 14TH; PLEASE BE SURE YOUR NOVEL IS COMPLETED BY THEN!

 

Grade 5- This week, the students will continue working on their creative spelling stories; they will be presenting the final draft of their stories to the class.Next, the students will be working in their Ready New York CCLS English Language Arts book. They will be focusing on summarizing informational texts.They will be identifying main ideas and key details, using main ideas and key details to summarize a text, and drawing evidence from informational texts to support analysis and reflection.The students will be continuing to practicing paragraph formation and learning how to only include important information within paragraphs.

Tentative Homework Schedule:

*When classes meet during the week of TerraNova testing,  you will be working on a book report project.  Please be sure the novel you are reading is completed by Tuesday, October 15th.*

Monday, October 7th-  1). Read for 20 minutes; no written reading log is required. 2). Get your Unit 1 Spelling/Vocabulary exam signed and corrected. (We will continue to work on our spelling stories tomorrow.)

Tuesday, October 8th 1). Read for 20 minutes; no written reading log is needed. 2). Final draft of your spelling story is due tomorrow!

Wednesday, October 9th-  1). Be sure your reading log is completed from SSR.

Thursday, October 10th- 1). Ready NY pages 26,27, and 30: read- “A Portrait of Frida Kahlo”; complete the “Close Reading Habits” at the bottom of page 26; then, complete the main idea organizer(#1)and the “Short Response” (#3)- your answer can be written on page 30. Do exactly as we have done today in class; take your time!

Grade 6- This week, the students will continue working on their creative spelling stories; they will be presenting the final draft of their stories to the class.  Next, the students will be working in their Ready New York CCLS English Language Arts book. They will be focusing on summarizing informational texts.  They will be using central idea and key details to summarize a text.  They will also be summarizing a text without introducing opinions or judgments.

Grade 7- This week, the students will continue working on their creative spelling stories; they will be presenting their final draft of their stories to the class.  Next, the students will be working in their Ready New York CCLS English Language Arts book. They will be identifying central ideas in an informational text and the important details that support these ideas. Next, they will be summarizing an informational text by restating in one’s own words the central ideas and important details.  Lastly, they will be providing an objective summary free of personal opinions and judgments. 

Religion- This week, the students will be finishing focusing on Chapter 1; they will be writing an essay about how Jesus helps us to know about God; this will be graded as test.
