Week of October 28th-November 1st

Reminders:

2). On Friday, November 1st, at 10:00 a.m., the students will be attending a mass for All Saint’s Day. 

 

Grade 5- This week, the students will finish typing their book report summaries on their Chromebooks; they will be presenting their Apple i-Phone book report projects as well.  Next, they will be identifying conjunctions/subordinating conjunctions, independent and dependent clauses, and compound and complex sentences. The students will be engaging in various activities to gain a better understanding on writing sentences with conjunctions and distinguishing the difference between compound and complex sentences. 

Tentative Homework/Testing Schedule:

*If you needed to finish your I-Phone project, please have it in by Monday, October 8th.

Monday, October 28th- 1). Read for 20 minutes; no written reading log is required. (Today you will finish typing your book report summary on your Chromebook.)

Tuesday, October 29th-  1). Be sure your reading log is completed from SSR. 

Wednesday, October 30th- 1).  Write ten sentences using conjunctions-five sentences using conjunctions to link words and five compound sentences. 2). Be sure your reading log is completed from SSR.

Thursday, October 31st- There is no homework tonight; Happy Halloween; be safe!

“Basketball Jeopardy”-November 6th

 

Grade 6- This week, the students will be presenting their Apple i-Pod book report projects to the class.  Next, they will be identifying subject, object, and possessive pronouns; they will be focusing on the pronouns in detail and working on various writing activities using these pronouns in sentences. 

Tentative Homework/Testing Schedule:

Monday, October 28th- 1). Read for 20 minutes; no written reading log is required.

Tuesday, October 29th- 1). Write five sentences using subject pronouns and five sentences using object pronouns; highlight the pronoun in each sentence. 2). Be sure your reading log is completed from SSR.

Wednesday, October 30th- 1). Review subject and object pronouns-review pages 241-244 in the Ready NY English Language Arts book. Review my handout on subject and object pronouns as well! 2). Be sure your reading log is completed from SSR.

“Basketball Jeopardy”-November 6th

 

Grade 7- This week, the students will be presenting their movie poster book report projects to the class.  Next, they will be viewing a Powerpoint that describes coordinate adjectives. They will be learning the two main rules on how to identify these particular adjectives and use them correctly in writing; they will be writing a creative story using ten coordinate adjectives as well. 

Religion- The students will continue working on their Saint CD projects; they will continue developing 15 song titles with explanations that focus on their saint.  They will also be designing an album cover that represents their saint as well. The students will be presenting their Saint CD’s to their classmates.

Monday, October 28th- 1). Read for 20 minutes; no written reading log is required.

Tuesday, October 29th- 1). Write ten sentences using coordinate adjectives; in your own words, explain how you can identify coordinate adjectives. 2). Read for 20 minutes; no written reading log is required.

Grade 8- This week, the students will be presenting their menu book report projects to the class.  Next, they will be identifying active and passive voice; they will be focusing on specific ways to distinguish between the two voices, how to identify them within writing, and write sentences with each of them.  

Tentative Homework/Testing Schedule:

Monday, October 28th- 1). Read for 20 minutes; no written reading log is required.

Tuesday, October 29th- 1). Write five sentences using active voice and five sentences using passive voice. 2). Be sure your reading log is completed from SSR.

Wednesday, October 30th- 1). Review active and passive voice-go over the rules to distinguish between the two voices. 2). Read for 20 minutes; no written reading log is required.
