Week of October 22nd-October 26th

                                                   Reminders:

1). Winter uniform begins on Monday, October 22nd.

2). Progress Reports will be sent home on Tuesday, October 23rd.

3). We will be having a $2 Dress Down Wednesday, October 24th, to support our troops!

4). Progress Reports must be signed and sent back by Wednesday, October 24th.

5).  The Cheesecake Sale ends on Friday, October 26th.

6). The Pumpkin Patch will be taking place on Friday, October 26th; a notice discussing details about this day was sent home on Tuesday, October 16th.

 

Grade 5- This week, the students will be identifying correlative conjunctions. They will be identifying each pair and observe various illustrations in order to develop sentences using these types of conjunctions. The students will be reviewing all the types of conjunctions that they have learned taking an exam on conjunctions-specifically: coordinating, subordinating, and correlative.

     Based on Unit 2 vocabulary words, the students will be engaging in an activity that focuses on illustrations, sentences, synonyms, and antonyms for each word. The students will be working with a partner to fill in our dry erase vocabulary charts; lastly, the students will be taking a quiz on Unit 2 words. 

Tentative Homework/Testing Schedule:

*Your non-fiction book must be completed by Monday, October 29th.

Monday, October 22nd- 1). Finish completing your sentences from class- (the handout with the pictures); make sure your sentences are detailed; highlight the correlative conjunctions! 2). Complete pages in the Ready New York CCLS English Language Arts book: “Coordinating and Subordinating Conjunctions” pages 450-451 and “Correlative Conjunctions”  pages 462-463.  3). Read for 20 minutes; no written reading log is required. 

Tuesday, October 23rd- 1). Study for your exam tomorrow on conjunctions; be able to identify the difference between independent and dependent clauses and write sentences using coordinating conjunctions, subordinating conjunctions, and correlative conjunctions. Review my handouts and all classwork/homework on these topics. 2). Read for 20 minutes; no written reading log is required.

Wednesday, October 24th- 1). Be sure your reading log is completed from class today. 2). Complete pages 20-23: “Match the Meaning”, “Antonyms”, “Synonyms”, “Completing the Sentence”, and “Word Associations” in your Common Core Enriched Edition Vocabulary Workshop book. 3). Get your “Conjunctions” exam signed, and make corrections.

Thursday, October 25th- 1). Study for your quiz tomorrow for Unit 2 words! 2). Be sure your reading log is completed from class today!

Grade 6- This week, the students will finish creating their story using pronouns-subject, object, possessive, reflexive and intensive. They will also be reviewing and taking an exam on these pronouns. Next, the students will continue focusing on Unit 2 vocabulary words, they will be engaging in an activity that focuses on illustrations, sentences, synonyms, and antonyms for each word. The students will be working with a partner to fill in our dry erase vocabulary charts; lastly, the students will be taking a quiz on Unit 2 words. 

*1). Complete the rest of the vocabulary handout for Unit 2 (#’s 16-20).

*2). Your non-fiction book must be completed by Monday, October 29th.

Complete pages 29-31: “Completing the Sentence” and “Vocabulary in Context” in your Common Core Enriched Edition Vocabulary Workshop book; do not complete the “Writing: Words in Action”. 2). Be sure your reading log is completed from class. 3). Get your “Pronouns” exam signed, and make corrections.

Thursday, October 25th- 1). Finish your rough draft from class today based on the Unit 2 “Writing: Words in Action” #2; edit and revise your work!

Grade 7- This week, the students will continue reviewing compound, complex, compound-complex sentences. The students will be taking an exam these topics. 

    Based on Unit 2 vocabulary words, the students will be engaging in an activity that focuses on illustrations, sentences, synonyms, and antonyms for each word. The students will be working with a partner to fill in our dry erase vocabulary charts; they will also be focusing on a persuasive writing prompt that focuses on suggestions to school lunches. The students will be brainstorming ideas and completing their rough draft in class; they will edit and revise their work and type or write their final draft; the students must use the ELA rubric as a guide with their writing. Lastly, the students will be taking a quiz on Unit 2 words. 

Religion- This week the students will be playing “Basketball Jeopardy” and taking an exam on Chapter 2: “The Truth Revealed”. Next, we will be discussing a project for All Saints Day.  The students will be given one saint to research and will be creating a biography book that focuses on the life of their saint.  They will be creating a cover for their book, developing “ten chapter titles”,  and including three symbols or illustrations that are significant to their saint. All aspects of the project will reflect the saint’s life in a creative way. The students will be using a rubric as a guide for their project. 

*1). Please have pages 28 to 29 in religion completed for Monday. Don’t forget to complete the essay as well-it must consist of an introduction, body, and conclusion.

*2). Complete the rest of the vocabulary handout for Unit 2 (#’s 16-20). 

*3). Your non-fiction book must be completed by Monday, October 29th.

Next, based on Unit 2 vocabulary words, the students will be engaging in an activity that focuses on illustrations, sentences, synonyms, and antonyms for each word. The students will be working with a partner to fill in our dry erase vocabulary charts; they will also be focusing on a writing prompt that focuses on: communication skills. Lastly, the students will be taking a quiz on Unit 2 words. 

*1). Complete the rest of the vocabulary handout for Unit 2 (#’s 16-20).

*2). Your non-fiction book must be completed by Monday, October 29th.

*3). Your exam on Active and Passive Voice will be this Monday, October 22nd! Be able to identify the difference and write sentences using each voice.

Thursday, October 25th- 1). Study for “Unit 2 Vocabulary” quiz! 2). Be sure your reading log is completed from class. 3). Type or neatly write your essay based on the second writing prompt.
