Week of October 1st-October 5th

Reminders:

1). Cheesecake Sale will begin on Monday, October 1st.

2). There will a bake sale on Thursday, October 4th.

3). There is a 12:00 P.M. Dismissal on Friday, October 5th; there will be a Faculty Meeting this day, too.

4). School will be closed on Monday, October 8th-Columbus Day.

 

Grade 5- This week, the students will be receiving a list of 20 spelling words; we will be reviewing the words, and homework for the week will be based on these words; reading logs will also be expected to be completed on certain days. The students will be having a spelling quiz on Friday, October 5th. The students will continue working on their “Leonardo’s Horse Newspaper Project”; they will be designing their final draft which will include a creative title for their paper, two-three articles that focus on two specific events from the story, and a creative advertisement that represents the story in some way.  The students will be using their rubrics as a guideline throughout their project; tablets, i-Pads, and laptops may be used to type any work for the project; cell phones will not be permitted. They will be presenting their projects on Thursday. 

*Bring in any pictures that you need for your “Leonardo’s Horse Newspaper Project” for Monday!*

Tentative Homework/Testing Schedule:

Monday, October 1st- 1). Read for 20 minutes; no written reading log is required. 2). Write the spelling words #’s 1-10 3 X each. Please write the words neatly. Typing the words is not permitted. 3). You will be having a spelling quiz on Friday-begin reviewing today!

Tuesday, October 2nd- 1). Complete a written reading log. 2). Write the spelling words #’s 11-20 3 x each. 3). Review for your spelling quiz which will be on Friday!  4). Get your “Leonardo’s Horse” Exam signed, and make corrections. 

Wednesday, October 3rd- 1). Be sure your reading log is completed from class today. 2). Review the spelling words!

Thursday, October 4th- 1). Be sure your reading log is completed from class today. 2). Study for your spelling quiz for tomorrow!

The students will continue working on their “Old Yeller Photo Album Project”; they will be designing their final draft which will include a creative title for their album and ten “photos” that represent the story; these photos will be accompanied by descriptions. The students will be using their rubrics as a guideline throughout their project; tablets, i-Pads, and laptops may be used to type any work for the project; cell phones will not be permitted. They will be presenting their projects on Thursday.

Grade 7- This week, the students will be receiving a list of 20 spelling words; we will be reviewing the words, and homework for the week will be based on these words; reading logs will also be expected to be completed on certain days. The students will be having a spelling quiz on Friday, October 5th. The students will finish their “Two-Kinds” from The Joy Luck Club Movie DVD Project; they will finish designing their final draft which will include a title using a vocabulary words for their movie, a detailed illustration that reflects the story as a whole or a specific event from the story, and a summary that explains the “movie” with a cliff hanger for an ending. The students will be using their rubrics as a guideline throughout their project; tablets, i-Pads, and laptops may be used to type any work for the project; cell phones will not be permitted. They will be presenting their projects this week, too.

Religion- This week, the students will be playing “Basketball Jeopardy” to review Chapter 1: “The Source of All Life”. They will also be taking an exam on this chapter. Next, the students will be introduced to Chapter 2: “The Truth Revealed”.  We will be discussing ways that we find truth in our lives.  The students will also be discussing the importance of Scripture and Tradition and how the truth is revealed and written in Scripture.

Tentative Homework/Testing Schedule:

*20 Jeopardy questions for Chapter 1: “The Source of All Life” are due on Monday; we will be playing “Basketball Jeopardy” on Monday as well!*

The students will be having a spelling quiz on Friday, October 5th. They will also continue working on “The Tell-Tale Heart” Netflix Series Project; they will be designing ten illustrations and developing titles/descriptions that focus on the short story. They must also have one main illustration and title for their series. The students will be using their rubrics as a guideline throughout their project; tablets, i-Pads, and laptops may be used to type any work for the project; cell phones will not be permitted. They will be presenting their projects on Thursday.
