Week of November 4th-November 8th

Reminders:

1). Student Council Elections will be taking place on Wednesday, November 6th, at 1:15 p.m. Parents of students running in the election are welcome to attend.

2). There is a Bake Sale on Wednesday, November 6th.

3). School is closed on Friday, November 8th. (Professional Development Day)

4). School is closed on Monday, November 11th, in honor of Veterans’ Day.

*Good luck to our 8th graders! They will be taking the TACHS exam on Saturday, November 9th. Please keep them in your prayers!

 

Grade 5- This week, the students will be identifying correlative conjunctions.  They will be working with a partner or group, observing various illustrations, and based on these pictures, write sentences using these type of conjunctions.  They will also be playing  “Basketball Jeopardy” to review conjunctions, independent clauses, compound sentences, subordinating conjunctions, dependent clauses, complex sentences, and correlative conjunctions.  They will be taking an exam on this, too.

Tentative Homework/Testing Schedule:

Monday, November 4th- 1). Complete Ready New York English Language Arts book page 462: “Correlative Conjunctions”. 2). Read for 20 minutes; no written reading log is required. 

Tuesday,November 5th- 1). Complete Ready New York English Language Arts book page 450-451 “Coordinating and Subordinating Conjunctions”. 2). Make sure your reading log is completed from SSR. 3). We will be playing “Basketball Jeopardy” tomorrow to review conjunctions, independent clauses, compound sentences, subordinating conjunctions, dependent clauses, complex sentences, and correlative conjunctions; don’t forget to study!

Wednesday, November 6th- 1). Test tomorrow on conjunctions, independent clauses, compound sentences, subordinating conjunctions, dependent clauses, complex sentences, and correlative conjunctions-STUDY! 2). Read for 20 minutes; no written reading log is required.

“Basketball Jeopardy”-November 6th

 

Grade 6- This week, the students will be identifying intensive and reflexive pronouns.  They will be working with a group and practice writing sentences using these type of pronouns. The students will be taking an exam on subject, object, possessive, intensive, and reflexive pronouns on Thursday.

Tentative Homework/Testing Schedule:

Monday, November 4th- 1). Write five sentences using reflexive pronouns and five sentences using intensive pronouns; follow the handout! 2). Read for 20 minutes; no written reading log is required. 

Tuesday,November 5th- 1). Finish your 20 Jeopardy questions based on pronouns; review: subject, object, possessive, intensive, and reflexive pronouns. 2). Read for 20 minutes; no written reading log is required.  

Wednesday, November 6th- 1). Test tomorrow on subject, object, possessive, intensive, and reflexive pronouns-STUDY! 2). Read for 20 minutes; no written reading log is required. (Jeopardy is cancelled today due to Student Council Elections.)

Thursday, November 7th- No homework tonight; enjoy the long weekend!

Grade 7- This week, the students will be writing stories using coordinate adjectives; they will edit and revise their stories and type their final drafts on their Chromebooks. They will be presenting their stories to the class, too. These stories will be graded as an exam. 

Religion-This week, the students will finish their Saint CD’s; they will be presenting them as well. Next, they will be focusing on Chapter 2: “The Truth Revealed”. We will be discussing ways we can find truth in our lives. Next, the students will be reading, highlighting, and using their Chromebooks to outline the following: “Scripture and Tradition reveal the truth” and “The truth is written in Scripture”. The students will also be identifying Scripture, divine inspiration, Tradition, synagogues, epistles, Gospels, and Resurrection. 

Tentative Homework/Testing Schedule:

Monday, November 4th- 1). Read for 20 minutes; no written reading log is required. 

Tuesday,November 5th-  1). Read for 20 minutes; no written reading log is required. 2). Religion- Saint CD is due NEXT TUESDAY!

Wednesday, November 6th- 1). Finish your final draft of your coordinate adjective story! You will be presenting it tomorrow! 2). Read for 20 minutes; no written reading log is required.  

Thursday, November 7th- No homework tonight; enjoy the long weekend! (If you have to finish your Saint CD, please finish over the weekend; you will be presenting it on Tuesday, November 12th. )

*Coordinate adjective story will count as an exam grade. 

 

Grade 8- This week, the students will be taking an exam on Active and Passive Voice.  For the remainder of the week, they will continue practicing for the TACHS exam. 

*ACTIVE AND PASSIVE VOICE EXAM-MONDAY, NOVEMBER 4TH.

*STUDENT COUNCIL SPEECHES ARE DUE ON MONDAY, NOVEMBER 4TH. 

Tentative Homework/Testing Schedule:

Monday, November 4th- 1). Active and Passive Voice exam today! 2). Read over the “Verbal Skills TACHS” handout; I underlined important parts; however, it would be beneficial to read through everything; this will prepare you for the Verbal Skills section on the TACHS exam. Highlight and make your own notes on it!!

Tuesday,November 5th- 1). Make sure your reading log is completed from SSR. 2). Read over the “Reading Comprehension TACHS” handout; even though I starred some parts; read over EVERYTHING! (STUDENT COUNCIL ELECTIONS ARE TOMORROW; CANDIDATES PLEASE BE IN FULL UNIFORM! PARENTS OF THE CANDIDATES ARE WELCOME TO ATTEND!)
