Week of November 4, 2019

Reminders:

1). Student Council Elections will be taking place on Wednesday, November 6th, at 1:15 p.m. Parents of students running in the election are welcome to attend.

2). There is a Bake Sale on Wednesday, November 6th.

3). School is closed on Friday, November 8th. (Professional Development Day)

4). School is closed on Monday, November 11th, in honor of Veterans’ Day.

*Good luck to our 8th graders! They will be taking the TACHS exam on Saturday, November 9th. Please keep them in your prayers!

5th Grade

  This week the students will  continue their study of the world in the 1400s.  They will be identifying powerful Native American empires in Central and South America.  They will also be exploring the changes brought about by the Renaissance. Lastly, the students will be analyzing the economic motivations for exploration in Asia.

11/4: Worksheet- “The Americas” 

11/5: Finish the worksheet “Europe” that we started in class.

11/6: STUDY! Jeopardy- Wednesday and Test Thursday: “The World in the 1400s” on pages 106-111. 20 Jeopardy questions are due on Wednesday.

6th Grade

This week, the students will continue their study of Mesopotamia.  They will become familiar with the geography of Mesopotamia and how it grew into a civilization with the help of the Tigris and Euphrates Rivers. The students will also be analyzing how the Sumerians lived-focusing on their religious practices and social groups.  Lastly, the class will be discussing the ideas and inventions that the helped the Sumerians prosper.

11/4: STUDY!  Dart Game- Wednesday and Test- Thursday: “The Sumerians” on pages 76-83. 10 Dart Game questions are due on Wednesday!

11/5: STUDY!

11/6: The class will be playing the Dart Game today.

11/7: The class will be taking a test on “The Sumerians”.

Mesopotamian City-State Project– Your materials are due on Tuesday! Make sure that your group has one shoebox, clay, and whatever other materials you all decided on.

 

7th Grade

This week, the students will continue their study of European exploration.  They will analyze the voyages that the Vikings took to North America and discuss the reasons why they didn’t set up permanent colonies there.  They will also be discussing the impact that Prince Henry of Portugal had on ocean exploration.  Lastly, the students will be examining the voyages of explorers such as: Dias, Da Gama, Columbus, and Magellan, and the impact they had on trade, travel, and new settlements in the Americas.

11/4: Create riddles for the Key Terms and People on page 42.  Make sure that you illustrations are completed because the class will be playing the Vocabulary and Riddle Games.

11/6: STUDY! Jeopardy- Wednesday and Test-Thursday: “Europeans Set Sail” and “Europeans Reach the Americas” on pages 38-45. 20 Jeopardy questions are due on Wednesday.

11/7: Add Vespucci, Balboa, and Magellan to your explorer map!

8th Grade

This week, the students will be ending their study of the Civil War.  They will be examining how the Union tried to divide the Confederate Army at Fredericksburg, but the attempt failed. They will also be discussing how the Battle of Gettysburg was a major turning point in the war.  The students will be discussing how the Union campaigns in the East and South dealt with crippling blows to the Confederacy and how in 1865, the Union troops forced the South to surrender-ending the Civil war. Lastly, the class will be discussing President Lincoln’s Assassination and reconstruction.

11/4: to 11/6: Groups will continue to work on their End of the Civil War Story Boards. 

11/5: Worksheet Packet- “Surrender at Appomattox”, “A Civil War Review”,“The Presidential Box at Ford’s Theater”, and “Andrew Johnson and Reconstruction” This packet is due completed on Thursday.

11/6: Worksheet Packet is due tomorrow

11/7: Groups will be presenting their projects today.

Religion

This week the class will be continuing their study of creation.  They will be focussing on God being the source of all life.

11/1: STUDY! Test- Wednesday: “Creation” on pages 32-42. Ten Dart Game questions are due on Tuesday.

11/4: STUDY! Ten Dart Game questions are due tomorrow!

11/5: The class will be reviewing “Creation” by playing the Dart Game.
