Week of November 19, 2018


Wednesday, November 21st:

1). The school will be attending 8:30 a.m. Mass.

2). After Mass, we will be having our OLGCA Student Council Induction Ceremony; all parents whose child is a part of the OLGCA Student Council may attend!

3). Our class will be having a celebration; students were given certain items to bring in for our party.

4). Dismissal will be at 12:00 P.M.

5). School will be closed on Thursday, November 22nd- Happy Thanksgiving and Friday, November 23rd.

5th Grade

 This week the students will begin their study of New Spain.  They will be exploring when, where, and why the Spanish colonized North America.  They will also be analyzing how the Spanish tried to maintain control of North America.  Lastly, the class will be discussing the introduction of slavery into the Americas.

11/19: Vocabulary- finish creating illustrations for the vocabulary on page 144.  The class will be playing Pick the Pic tomorrow.

Test- signed and corrected.

11/20: STUDY! Vocabulary Quiz- Wednesday, November 28th.  Make sure that you understand each word and that you can put it into a detailed sentence!

*EXPLORER PROJECT- ALL RESEARCH AND MATERIALS ARE DUE ON MONDAY, NOVEMBER 26TH!* All of the written work  for this project will be done in class!

6th Grade

 This week the students will be continuing their study of Ancient Mesopotamia.  They will be working with partners to finish creating their Mesopotamian city-state dioramas.  

11/19: City-State Project: The written part of the project is due typed on Wednesday!

11/21: All groups will be presenting their projects today.

7th Grade

  This week the students will continue their study of why the Europeans wanted to colonize the Americas.  They will be discussing the events that took place in Europe that affected the settlement of North America.  They will also be exploring why many explorers were searching for a Northwest Passage in North America and the effects these explorations had on claiming new land in North America.  Lastly, the class will be analyzing the early settlements of the English, French, and Dutch in the New World.

11/19: Key Terms and People- page 52: Create sentences for each of the terms.  Make sure that  you have completed your illustrations because the class will be playing the Vocabulary Game tomorrow!

8th Grade

  The students will continue their study of the Second Industrial Revolution.  They will be discussing the impact that the Bessemer Process had on America. They will also be analyzing the important inventions of Thomas Edison, Alexander Graham Bell, Henry Ford, and the Wright Brothers and the impact these inventions had on America in the late 1800s.  Lastly, the class will be discussing that the growth of big business in the late 1800s led to the creation of monopolies. 

11/16: STUDY! Test- Monday: “Second Industrial Revolution” and “Big Business” on pages 614-622.


11/19: The class will be taking a test on “Second Industrial Revolution” and “Big Business”.

 Current Events Assignment is due tomorrow! Everyone will be presenting their articles!

11/20: Current Event Presentations


11/16: Religion Packets are due on Monday.
