3). On Friday, November 22nd, it is Family Paint Night! This event begins at 7:00 p.m.
This week the students will be using their Chromebooks to complete a project on early European explorers. They will be working with a partner to discuss the reasons for their explorer’s explorations, the country that sponsored the voyages, the hardships that their explorer faced, and the successes/failures of his explorations. Lastly, the students will also be creating a time line of the explorer’s life. This project will be done during social studies class.
11/19: The paragraph discussing the purpose of your explorer’s exploration is due completed on Thursday. If you have to put any finishing touches on your paragraph, please do so. Remember that you are able to log into your email from any device; you just have to use your username and password.
11/21: Numbers 1, 2, and 3 from your rubric must be completed by Monday. If you did not finish these during class time please work on them at home. Remember that you are able to log into your email from any device; you just have to use your username and password.
This week the students will be continuing their study of Ancient Mesopotamia. They will be working with partners to create a Mesopotamian city-state based on what we have studied. The groups will be following a detailed rubric to guide them throughout the project.
11/18: The written part of your Mesopotamian City-State Project is due on Monday. You will be working on this assignment in class on Thursday – Friday.
11/21: The revised rough draft of your journal entry is due tomorrow.
This week the students will begin their study of the Spanish empire in North and South Americas. They will explore how the Spanish conquistadors conquered the Aztec and Inca empires. They will also be discussing how the Spanish explorers traveled through the borderlands of New Spain, claiming more land. Lastly, the students will be analyzing how the Spanish treated the Native Americans and the negative impact this treatment had on their population.
11/18: Create riddles for the Key Terms and People on page 46. Make sure that your illustrations are completed because the class will be playing the Vocabulary and Riddle Games tomorrow.
11/19: Read: “Spanish Conquistadors” on pages 46-48 and then answer the questions below:
1. Which Spanish conquistador conquered the Aztec Empire?
2. What factors led to the fall of the Aztec empire?
3. Why was it fairly easy for Cortes to conquer the Aztecs?
4. How did Spain rule its empire in the Americas?
5. Which Spanish conquistador conquered the Inca Empire?
6. The Inca Empire would be located in which present-day countries?
7. Complete “Linking to Today”- page 47 #s 1-2.
8. Complete “Reasons for Spanish Victory”- page 48 #1.
The students will continue their study of the Second Industrial Revolution. They will be discussing the impact that the Bessemer Process had on America. They will also be analyzing the importance of the inventions of Thomas Edison, Alexander Graham Bell, Henry Ford, and the Wright Brothers and the impact these inventions had on America in the late 1800s. Lastly, the class will be discussing that the growth of big business in the late 1800s led to the creation of monopolies.
