Week of November 12th, 2018

REMINDERS:

1). School will be closed on Monday, November 12th-Veterans Day.

2). Individual Picture Day will be taking place on Tuesday, November 13th.

3). Class Picture Day will be taking place on Wednesday, November 14th.

4). The Chocolate Sale ends on Thursday, November 15th.

5). There is a $2.00 Dress Down on Thursday, November 15th, for the Blessed Christmas Lights.

6). We are having a $2.00 Dress Down Day on Friday, November 16th, to raise money for the Carmelite Nuns.

5th Grade

  This week the students will continue their study of European exploration.  They will be analyzing how the Turk’s capture of Constantinople affected European trade with Asia and the role Portugal played in discovering new trade routes to Asia.  Lastly, the students will be exploring the expeditions of Bartolomeu Dias and Vasco da Gama.

11/12: STUDY! Jeopardy- Thursday and Test- Friday:              “Background to European Exploration” on pages 114-119.  20 Jeopardy questions are due on Thursday.

11/13: Finish picking out important facts for “Dias and Da Gama” on pages 118-119.

11/15: The class will be playing Jeopardy today.  STUDY!

11/16: The class will be taking a test on “Background to European Exploration”.

 

6th Grade

 This week the students will be continuing their study of Ancient Mesopotamia.  They will be working with their partners to finish creating their Mesopotamian city-state dioramas. They will also be analyzing how the Mesopotamian empires greatly influenced other civilizations and will be exploring Hammurabi’s Code and its effects on the development of later civilizations.  Lastly, they will be discussing why Babylon was such an important city in the ancient world. 

Current Events Assignment- Each student must get two current event articles: one national article and one international article. The articles must discuss politics/government, economics, health, environmental issues, or religious issues. These articles must be read and highlighted  for Thursday. The students must also pick out at least three vocabulary words to define for each article. In class on Thursday, the students will be answering questions based on their articles. 

11/12: Test- tomorrow! Go over the notes that you took on the worksheet packet- “Ancient Civilizations”.  You will be able to use your notes for the test, but you cannot use the actual packet.

11/13: The class will be taking an open note book test on the worksheet packet- “Ancient Civilizations”.

11/14: Test signed and corrected. 

            Current Event Articles are due tomorrow.  They must be read, highlighted, and the vocabulary must be defined!

11/15: Current Event Assignment must be finished for homework.  Make sure you can explain your articles and that you are able to locate they country/continent and state on a map.  Everyone will be presenting tomorrow!

7th Grade

This week the students will be working on a Current Events Assignment.   They will be starting the assignment in class on Wednesday and finishing it for homework on Wednesday night.  All of the students will be presenting their Current Event articles on Thursday.

11/12: STUDY! Test- Tuesday: “Spain Builds an Empire” on pages 46-45.

Current Events Assignment- Each student must get two current event articles: one national article and one international article. The articles must discuss politics/government, economics, health, environmental issues, or religious issues. The articles must be read and highlighted on Wednesday. The students must also pick out at least three vocabulary words to define for each article. In class on Wednesday, the students will be answering questions based on their articles.

11/13: The class will be taking a test on “Spain Builds an Empire”.

Current Event Articles are due tomorrow.  They must be read, highlighted, and the vocabulary must be defined.

11/14: Current Events- Complete your current event assignment.  Everyone will be presenting their articles tomorrow during class.  Make sure that you can locate the state of your national article and the country/continent of your international article on the map!

8th Grade

  The students will continue their study of the Second Industrial Revolution.  They will be discussing the impact that the Bessemer Process had on America. They will also be analyzing the important inventions of Thomas Edison, Alexander Graham Bell, Henry Ford, and the Wright Brothers and the impact these inventions had on America in the late 1800s.  Lastly, the class will be discussing that the growth of big business in the late 1800s led to the creation of monopolies. 

11/12: STUDY! Jeopardy- Friday and Test- Monday-“The Second Industrial Revolution” and “Big Business” on pages 614-622.  20 Jeopardy questions are due on Friday.

11/15: STUDY! Jeopardy questions are due tomorrow.

Religion

This week the students will be discussing how sin entered the world.  They will be analyzing that God created human beings, body and soul, and that He called us to be stewards of creation.  Lastly, the class will be exploring the story of Adam and Eve in the Garden of Eden.

11/13- 11/19: Read and highlight pages 44-51. Then complete the packet that was given out in class today.  This packet will be collected and graded on Monday, November 19th.
