Week of March 30th 2020

Reminders:

*Specific assignments will be posted daily on Google Classroom at 8:00 A.M. Carefully read the instructions each day; many of you are asking questions that have been specifically outlined in the instructions; take your time, and read everything thoroughly. 

 

5th Grade

  The students will continue their study of the Massachusetts Bay Colony.  They will be discussing the accomplishments of significant colonial leaders such as John Winthrop. They will be identifying examples of representative government in the American colonies.  Lastly, the students will be examining the political, religious, social, and economic institutions that evolved in the colonial era.

All assignments will be posted on Google Classroom each day.

6th Grade

    The class will continue their study of ancient Chinese civilizations.  They will become familiar with the geography of China- focusing on how the rivers, mountains, and deserts shaped the development of China’s civilization.  The class will also be examining the Shang and Zhou dynasties. The students will also be analyzing how Chinese thinkers such as Confucius, Laozi, and Hanfeizi influenced society and government in ancient China.  They will also be exploring how Chinese society was organized.

7th Grade

  This week the students will be continuing their study of the American Revolution.  They will be analyzing the importance of the First Continental Congress and Second Continental Congress.  The students will also be discussing the impact of the “Shot Heard Around the World”.  Lastly, the class will be examining the early battles of the revolution.

 The class will also be discussing how Thomas Paine’s Common Sense led many colonists to support independence.  They will also be exploring how the colonists had to choose sides when independence was declared.  Lastly, the students will be analyzing how the Declaration of Independence did not address the rights of all the colonists.

8th Grade

  The class will begin their study of World War I.  They will be analyzing the many factors that contributed to the outbreak of the war (militarism, the assassination of Archduke Francis Ferdinand, and alliances). They will also be exploring the war’s early battles and how the European nations suffered massive casualties.

    This class will begin discussing why and how the United States entered World War I.  They will be exploring the impact of the sinking of the Lusitania and the Zimmerman Note.  They will also be discussing that the United States mobilized for war by training troops and stepping up production.  Lastly, the students will be discussing how labor shortages created new wartime opportunities for women and other Americans.

Religion

      This week the students will be learning about the Israelites, their enslavement in Egypt, and the Exodus.
