Week of March 2nd-March 6th

Reminders:

Grade 5- This week, the students will be working on an essay based on the novel, Wonder by R.J. Palacios.  As done before, I will be modeling how to formulate a solid introduction, body, and conclusion of an essay.  The students will be developing a rough draft, editing and revising their work, and typing a final draft.  The students will be watching the movie, Wonder, too. We will be discussing the similarities and differences between the book and the novel.  

*Now that we are finished reading Wonder, students are required to have a novel of choice with them for SSR.  

Tentative Homework/Testing Schedule:

*The exam on Wonder was given back on Friday, February 28th; please have it signed, and make corrections for Monday, March 2nd. 

Monday, March 2nd- 1. Read for 20 minutes; no written reading log is required. 2. We will be watching Wonder tomorrow! You may wear pajamas/dress down and bring in extra snacks!

Tuesday, March 3rd- 1. Read for 20 minutes; no written reading log is required.

Wednesday, March 4th-1. Read for 20 minutes; no written reading log is required.

Thursday, March 5th- 1. Read for 20 minutes; no written reading log is required.

 

Grade 6- This week, the students will be playing “Basketball Jeopardy” to review Unit 4 Spelling/Vocabulary words; they will be taking an exam on this unit as well.  Next, the students will be practicing for the NYS ELA Exam; they will be citing evidence to make inferences and analyzing key ideas in text; the students will be practicing answering multiple choice questions based on various texts and answering short and extended responses. 

*Starting Wednesday, March 4th, the students will be reading passages from their Ready NY English Language Arts book and answering various questions during SSR.  Students should still keep their novels on them because classes are subject to change. 

Tentative Homework/Testing Schedule:

*If you have not already handed in your essay on holistic approaches, it is due on Monday, March 2nd.

Tuesday, March 3rd- 1. Exam today on Unit 4 Spelling/Vocabulary words. 2. Make sure your reading log is completed from SSR. 

Wednesday, March 4th- 1. Read for 20 minutes; no written reading log is required. 

Thursday, March 5th- 1. Ready New York CCLS English Language Arts pages 19-26 must be completed. 2. Get Unit 4 Spelling/Vocabulary exam signed, and make corrections. 

 

Grade 7-  This week, the students will be playing “Basketball Jeopardy” to review Unit 4 Spelling/Vocabulary words; they will be taking an exam on this unit as well.  Next, the students will be practicing for the NYS ELA Exam; they will be citing evidence to make inferences and determining themes within a text; the students will be practicing answering multiple choice questions based on various texts and answering short and extended responses.

Religion- This week, the students will be working with the 6th graders and developing a Netflix Series that focuses on Lent, Triduum, Easter, and Pentecost; they will be following a detailed rubric throughout the project.

Wednesday, March 4th- 1. Ready New York CCLS English Language Arts pages 19-26 must be completed. 

Thursday, March 5th- 1. Complete Ready New York CCLS English Language Arts pages 48-49: from “The Ransom of Red Chief”. 2. Get Unit 4 Spelling/Vocabulary exam signed, and make corrections.

Grade 8- This week, the students will be playing “Basketball Jeopardy” to review Unit 4 Spelling/Vocabulary words; they will be taking an exam on this unit as well.  Next, the students will be focusing on verbals-specifically gerunds.  They will be learning how to identify each type of gerund: subject, predicate nominative, direct object, and an object of a preposition. 

Tentative Homework/Testing Schedule:

*If you have not already handed in your essay on literature/social ills, it is due on Monday, March 2nd.

Tuesday, March 3rd- 1. Exam today on Unit 4 Spelling/Vocabulary words. 2. Read for 20 minutes; no written reading log is required.

Wednesday, March 4th- 1. Review the gerunds taught today-subject, predicative nominative, and direct object; make sure your sentences are completed from class. 2. No reading log tonight. 

Thursday, March 5th- 1. Review gerunds; there is no written homework today.
