Week of March 16th-March 20th

ATTENTION STUDENTS: VERY IMPORTANT INFORMATION! PLEASE CHECK YOUR GOOGLE ACCOUNTS FOR AN EMAIL INVITING YOU TO JOIN MY ELA GOOGLE CLASSROOM. 

Steps for logging in to Google Classroom:

  1. To login to Google Classroom go to www.google.com

     2. Click the circle with an initial or sign in the top right-hand corner of the page. 

     3. Type in username and password. Be sure to spell everything correctly. 

     4. Click the 9 small squares at the top right-hand corner of the page to open all google apps. 

     5. Click Classroom.

•The stream tab is where you will see all updates and posts. I ask that students do not post messages on the stream unless specified. 

•The classwork tab is where you will see all assignments. Click on an assignment for more details. 

•The Grades Tab is where grades processed by google classroom can be viewed. All grades will be posted on OptionC. 

•Uploading assignments may require creating a document rather than posting a response as a comment. I will specify if that is the case. 

•I may also ask that a picture is uploaded in an assignment as proof of written paper homework. 

 

Grade 5- Below is the work for the week; you must send completed classwork via email each day by 6:00 P.M. Homework assignments will be due the following day via email by 9:00 A.M. We will begin using Google Classroom for all assignments; please review the above, and check your school email account.

Monday, March 16th- 

Classwork: 1. If you have not already done so, please send me your “commas play”  2.  Read “Wagon Train Diary”-(Diary Entries) pages 36-37 in your Common Core Enriched Edition Vocabulary Workshop book. Then review each word-pages 38-39; write a sentence using each word. If a word has more than one part of speech/definition, only choose ONE to write a sentence. 

Homework: 1. Create a riddle for each vocabulary word; be creative!

 

Tuesday, March 17th- 

Classwork: 1.  Type a synonym and antonym  for each word; give the part of speech, too! This CAN BE TYPED in a Google document in Google Classroom. 

Homework: 1. Complete Common Core Enriched Edition Vocabulary Workshop book pages 40-41. You can just send answers in Google classroom- in a Google document.

 

Wednesday, March 18th-

Classwork: 1. Complete Common Core Enriched Edition Vocabulary Workshop book pages 42-43.

Homework: 1. Complete a written reading log. This CAN BE TYPED in a Google document in Google Classroom. 

 

Thursday, March 19th- 

Classwork, Thursday, March 19th- : 1. Review pages 36-37: “Wagon Train Diary”; then, pretend it is the year 1849.  Write a diary entry. Discuss your journey heading west during the time of the California Gold Rush. Use the diary entries from “Wagon Train Diary” to help you with details! You may add your own ideas, too; be creative, and include at least five vocabulary words. Complete a rough draft first, but you only need to send me the final draft by tomorrow at 6:00 P.M. Underline the words in your writing. This CAN BE TYPED in a Google document and sent in Google Classroom. 

Classwork, Friday, March 20th- : 1. Finish the Diary Entry! This will be due today at 6:00 P.M; however, you may send it in Google Classroom at any time! 

 

Grade 6- Below is the work for the week; you must send completed classwork via email each day by 6:00 P.M. Homework assignments will be due the following day via email by 9:00 A.M. We will begin using Google Classroom for all assignments; please review the above, and check your school email account.

*Remember to complete these Ready New York CCLS English Language Arts pages as we do in class:

  1. Read the title of the passage and JUST the questions first.
  2. Highlight or underline the most important parts of the question.
  3. Go back and read the passage; make notes next to each paragraph to help you understand the information.
  4. Use process of elimination for the multiple choice questions!
  5. When it comes to short responses, answer the question first, then add your text evidence details. If you state evidence word for word, you must use quotation marks. (The text states, “….”)
  6. When it comes to the Extended Response questions, be sure to have a strong introduction (take what is being asked and form a solid introduction, ANSWER the question(s)/bullet points in the body, and sum it up with a strong conclusion-similar to the introduction, but not the same.

Classwork: 1. Complete Ready New York CCLS English Language Arts book pages 61-65. Read the top of page 65 carefully; then, observe the cartoon, and complete the chart. On page 62, read “Lost” and complete the chart and the short response at the bottom of the page. Continue reading “Lost” on page 63, complete the “Close Reading” and “Show Your Thinking”. Where it states to work with a partner, complete this part independently; you can type your response if you would like. Next, read “Reaching the Top” page 64; complete the “Close Reading”, too; then complete page 65.

Homework: 1. Complete Ready New York CCLS English Language Arts book pages 66-68: from “Departure”. The Extended Response may be typed; be sure to include an introduction, body, and conclusion (just as we have been doing in class). 

 

Tuesday, March 17th- 

Classwork: 1. Complete Ready New York CCLS English Language Arts book pages 77-79. Read and highlight the top part of page 77; next follow the directions for the pictures/summary.  Read pages 78 “Where is Lady Fish Pants?”.  Follow the directions for the student’s draft of a summary; then complete the chart. Continue reading the story on page 79.  Complete the “Close Reading”, answer the multiple choice question, and complete “Show Your Thinking”. You do not have to complete the very bottom of page 79 where it indicates to work with a partner. All of the answers CAN BE TYPED in a Google document in Google Classroom. 

Homework: 1. Complete Ready New York CCLS English Language Arts book pages 80-84: Mystery on “The Blue Ghost” and from “The Magician’s Elephant”. Don’t forget to complete the “Close Reading” on page 80, too. Take your time with the multiple choice questions and the short responses! All of the answers CAN BE TYPED in a Google document in Google Classroom. 

 

Wednesday, March 18th-

Classwork: 1. Complete Ready New York CCLS English Language Arts book pages 95-97. Carefully read the top of page 95; follow the directions for the picture, and fill in the blanks for the questions below the picture.  Read the rest of the page thoroughly as well. Follow the directions carefully for pages 96-97: “The Father of Rock and Roll”; complete the chart on page 96 and the bottom of the page as well. Continue reading page 97, complete the “Close Reading” and “Show Your Thinking”; you do not have to complete the bottom of page 97 where it asks you to work with a partner. All of the answers CAN BE TYPED in a Google document in Google Classroom. 

Homework: 1. Complete Ready New York CCLS English Language Arts book pages 98-102: “The Evolution of the Guitar” and from “The Power of Music”. Be sure to complete the “Close Reading” on page 98. Take your time with the multiple choice questions and the short responses! All of the answers CAN BE TYPED in a Google document in Google Classroom. 

 

 

Classwork- Thursday, March 19th- : 1. Complete Ready New York CCLS English Language Arts book pages 85-92. This is a practice exam.  For classwork, read the passage and work on the multiple choice and short answer questions.  All of the answers CAN BE TYPED in a Google document and sent in Google Classroom. (You do not have to complete the Extended Response today.)

Classwork Friday, March 20th: 1. Complete the Extended Response (same passage from yesterday). Be sure to have a solid introduction, include what is being asked in the body, and sum it all up in your conclusion-as we do in class! All of the answers CAN BE TYPED in a Google document and sent in Google Classroom.

Tuesday, March 17th- 

Classwork: 1. Complete Ready New York CCLS English Language Arts book pages 145-149. Read and highlight the top part of page 145; then read “Act I Scene 1”- follow the directions on this page. On page 146 The Diary of Anne Frank, Act I, Scene 2-fill in the missing information on the chart.  You do not have to complete the bottom section which asks you to “compare your notes…”. Continue on page 147, complete the “Close Reading”, multiple choice question, and the “Show Your Thinking”; you do not have to complete the very bottom of page 147 where it asks you to “Discuss with a partner…” For pages 148-149: The Diary of Anne Frank, Act 1 Scene 2-follow the “Close Reading”; then complete page 149. All of the answers CAN BE TYPED in a Google document in Google Classroom. 

Homework: 1. Complete Ready New York CCLS English Language Arts book pages 150-152: The Diary of Anne Frank, Act 2 Scene 4-.  The Extended Response can be typed. All of the answers CAN BE TYPED in a Google document in Google Classroom. 

 

Wednesday, March 18th-

Classwork: 1. Complete Ready New York CCLS English Language Arts book pages 153-155. Carefully read the top of page 153; just review this page. Follow the directions carefully for pages 154-155: “Places of Disinterest”; you do not have to complete the bottom of page 155 where it asks you to work with a partner. All of the answers CAN BE TYPED in a Google document in Google Classroom. 

Religion Classwork-Read over pages 62-63. Read and highlight page 64: “The Holy Spirit is always present with the Father and the Son”; create three short answer questions with answers; be detailed. All of the answers CAN BE TYPED in a Google document in Google Classroom. 

Homework: 1. Complete Ready New York CCLS English Language Arts book pages 156-157: “The Stingy Artist”. Be sure to complete the “Close Reading” on page 156. All of the answers CAN BE TYPED in a Google document in Google Classroom. 

2. Religion-Read and highlight page 65: “The Holy Spirit is active in God’s plan of salvation”; then, answer the following:

  1. How was the Holy Spirit active in Mary’s life? 
  2. Name some things Jesus was able to do through the Holy Spirit. All of the answers CAN BE TYPED in a Google document in Google Classroom.

Homework: 1. Complete Common Core Enriched Edition Vocabulary Workshop book pages 65-the top of 67: “Choosing the Right Word”, “Synonyms”, and “Antonyms”.

Homework: 1. Complete Common Core Enriched Edition Vocabulary Workshop book page 68: “Writing: Words in Action”. Complete the second writing prompt. Follow the directions carefully; be sure to include at least three or more words from Unit 5. (You may type your work.)All of the answers CAN BE TYPED in a Google document in Google Classroom. 

 

Wednesday, March 18th-

Classwork: 1. Complete Ready New York CCLS English Language Arts book pages 11-15. Carefully read the top of page 11; read the passage; underline the central idea and the supporting details; review the chart.  Next, read page 12: “Understand English Word Origins”, and complete the chart; complete the bottom of page 12 as well where it asks for you to work with a partner (obviously you are to do this independently); you can write or type your response. On page 13, read the directions carefully, complete the “Close Reading”, and then answer the multiple choice question/ “Show Your Thinking”; you do not have to complete the bottom of page 13- “With a partner…”.  For pages 14-15: “The Signs of Language” be sure to complete the “Close Reading” on page 14, use process of elimination for the multiple choice questions on page 15, and take your time with the short response question. Remember to not add your opinion. All of the answers CAN BE TYPED in a Google document in Google Classroom. 

Homework: 1. Carefully read the top of page 19; look at the picture; add ONE more piece of “Text/Photo Evidence” in the chart. Then review the rest of the chart.  Next, read page 20: “What Are Auroras?”, and complete the chart; complete the bottom of page 20 as well where it asks for you to work with a partner (obviously you are to do this independently); on page 21, read the directions carefully, complete the “Close Reading”, and then answer the multiple choice question/ “Show Your Thinking”; you do not have to complete the bottom of page 21- “With a partner…”.  For pages 22-23: from “In the sky! A bird? A Plane? A…UFO?”  be sure to complete the “Close Reading” on page 22, use process of elimination for the multiple choice questions on page 23, and take your time with the short response question on page 23, too. Classwork, Friday, March 20th: 1. Complete Ready New York CCLS English Language Arts book pages 24-26: “The Mysterious Marfa Lights”.
