Week of March 11th-March 15th

 

Reminders: 

1). Grades 5-8 will be going to Aviator on Monday, March 11th. Be sure to wear your gym uniform. There will be no mass today since the class will be going on Thursday. 

2). Chipotle Night Fundraiser will be taking place on Tuesday, March 12th. 

3). GRADE 7 ONLY-Dress Down on Wednesday, March 13th-for winning the Pennies for Patients weekly competition. 

4). There is a HAA Meeting on Wednesday, March 13th at 7:00 p.m.

5). The Second Trimester Ends on Thursday, March 14th.

6). The 8th graders’ Ring Day Ceremony will take place on Thursday, March 14th. Grades 5-8 will be attending mass this day as well and then watching the ceremony. 

7). There will be a $2.00 Green Dress Down Day on Friday, March 15th.

8). The Third Trimester begins on Friday, March 15h. 

9). St. Patrick’s Day is on Sunday, March 17th. 

 

Grade 5- This week, the students will be working in their Ready New York CCLS English Language Arts book; they will be identifying relationships between two or more events, ideas or concepts on a scientific or technical text. 

Tentative Homework/Testing Schedule:

Monday, March 11th- 1). Trip to Aviator today; there is no written homework; read for 20 minutes.

Tuesday, March 12th- Be sure the following is completed from class-Ready New York CCLS English Language Arts book pages 54-55: “Electricities and Batteries”; record your written response answer on page 58. 2). Be sure your reading log is completed from SSR.

Wednesday, March 13th- 1). Be sure your written reading log is completed from SSR. 

Thursday, March 14th- 1). Be sure your written reading log is completed from SSR. 2). Be sure Ready New York CCLS English Language Arts pages 60-65: “Hydroelectric Power” are completed. Be detailed with the your short response answers. 3). Reading Comprehension Quiz tomorrow!

Grade 6- This week, the students will continue working in their Ready New York CCLS English Language Arts book focusing on identifying and analyzing the elements of story’s or drama’s plot structure; they will then be focusing on the theme: “Recognizing Potential” and analyzing literary characters, including their traits. motivations, attitudes, and relationships.  They will also be describing the main conflict a character faces in a story or drama and determine how the character develops or changes in response to that conflict. 

Tentative Homework/Testing Schedule:

Monday, March 11th- 1). Trip to Aviator today; there is no written homework; read for 20 minutes.

Tuesday, March 12th– 1). Complete a written reading log. 2). Reading Comprehension quiz tomorrow!

Wednesday, March 13th- 1). Complete a written reading log today. 

Thursday, March 14th- 1). Be sure your written reading log is completed from SSR. 2). Ready New York CCLS English Language Arts pages 64-65: “Reaching the Top”. Complete the “Close Reading” on page 64, use process of elimination for the multiple choice questions, and be detailed in your short response answer.

Grade 7- This week, the students will be working in their Ready New York CCLS English Language Arts book; they will be focusing on the theme: “Setting a New Course”.  They will be recognizing broad messages in works of literature as themes and identifying how characters’ thoughts, feelings, and actions point to a story’s theme. 

Religion- The students will focus on the season of Lent; they will also be discussing a buddy project- creating a children’s book- that is based around Lent, the Triddum, and Easter. 

Tentative Homework/Testing Schedule:

*Classwork from Thursday must be completed for Monday- Ready New York CCLS English Language Arts pages 56-60.*

*This will be the last week until after Easter break that the 7th grade will be taking part in extra math classes.*

Tuesday, March 12th- 1). Complete the handout on Lent; read pages 285-287 (page 285 is just for you to reflect upon). This will be graded! Type or write your answers neatly. 

Wednesday, March 13th- 1). Complete a written reading log. 2). Reading Comprehension Exam tomorrow!

Thursday, March 14th- 1). Read for 20 minutes.  Please complete a reading log or reading logs if I spoke to you about what was needed for this trimester.

Grade 8- This week, the students will be working in their Ready New York CCLS English Language Arts book; they will be focusing on the theme: “Worldwide Food”.  They will be analyzing how ideas, individuals, and events in informational text are connected and how the interactions between them are related. They will also be identifying the distinctions between ideas, individuals, and events and the strategies authors use to make those distinctions, such as comparisons and analogies. Lastly, they will be identifying the similarities between ideas, individuals, and events and the strategies the authors use to make those distinctions, such as comparisons and analogies. 

Tentative Homework/Testing Schedule:

Monday, March 11th- 1). Trip to Aviator today; there is no written homework; read for 20 minutes.

Tuesday, March 12th- 1). Get the diary entry signed, and type your  new copy with corrections based on The Miracle Worker– include the proper heading: Name, ELA (top) OLGCA, Grade 8 (bottom). 2). Get The Miracle Worker Essay Exam signed, and make corrections. 

Wednesday, March 13th- 1). Complete a written reading log.

Thursday, March 14th- 1). Congratulations on receiving your rings today! Enjoy your trip at Dave and Busters! There is no written homework. 2). Reading Comprehension quiz tomorrow!
