The students will continue their study of New France. They will be exploring where and why the French explored and settled in North America. They will also be discussing the conflicts the French had with the English, Dutch, and Spanish. Lastly, the students will be identifying French explorers of the Americas and their contributions.
1/7: Read “The Growth of New France” on pages 151-152 and pick out important facts.

This week the students will continue their study of ancient Egypt. They will begin by analyzing the geography/location of Egypt. They will be discussing the importance of the Nile River and how it impacted the development of ancient Egypt. Lastly, the students will be analyzing how Egypt became united.
1/7: Finish your outline for “Then Nile River Valley” on pages 100-103.
1/9: Read and Outline: “People of the River” on pages 103-105.

The students will continue their study of the English Colonies. This week they will be focusing on the New England Colonies. They will be discussing that the Pilgrims and Puritans came to America to avoid religious persecution. They will be analyzing how closely linked religion and government were in these colonies. Lastly, the students will be examining the economy of the New England colonies, and they will compare it to the Southern Colonies’ economy.
1/7: Read and Outline: “Religion and Government in New England” on pages 81-83. Then answer the questions below:
- How was religion connected to government in the New England colonies? Be specific!
- What did Roger Williams and Anne Hutchinson have in common? Explain your answer.
- What effect do you think the witch trials had on Puritan communities? Explain your answer.

The students will begin their study of the Gilded Age and the Progressive Era. They will be discussing why political corruption was common during the Gilded Age, and how Progressives pushed for reforms to improve living conditions. Lastly, they will be analyzing how certain reforms expanded the voting power of citizens.
1/4: STUDY! Test- Wednesday: “The Gilded Age and the Progressive Movement” on pages 662-667. 10 Dart Game questions are due on Tuesday.
Political Cartoon Project “The Gilded Age and the Progressive Movement”- Topic and rough draft for your political cartoon must be completed by Thursday! Make sure that you are following the rubric when you are working on your rough draft.

This week the students will be discussing why God promised to send a Savior. They will be analyzing how the first humans struggled because of Original Sin, and they will be exploring the covenant that God made with Noah.
1/7: STUDY! Test- Friday: “God Promised to Help People”: on pages 56-66.
1/8: Design a stained-glass window that reminds you of God’s friendship with all people. You must write a paragraph explaining your window. This assignment will be graded as a Journal Topic so take your time and add plenty of details! This assignment is due on Friday.
