Week of January 28th-February 1st

Reminders:

1). Catholic Schools Week Schedule:

A). Monday, January 28th-Volleyball Game for Grades 5-8 in the afternoon (Sports Day-wear your favorite sports jersey.)

B). Tuesday, January 29th-Occupational Day (If you are not dressing up, you must wear your school uniform.)

C). Wednesday, January 30th- Color Day- (Grade 7’s color is red.)

D). Student Appreciation Day-Ice-cream/ Buddy Bingo/Pajama Day

E). Teacher Appreciation Day-Friday, February 1st-12:00 P.M. Dismissal

 

Grade 5- This week, the students will continue working on their new beverage advertisement projects based on Holes. They will be presenting their projects to the class. The students will also be taking an essay exam on the novel (we will be working on a practice essay this week, too); they will be able to use the book, vocabulary handouts, and questions for this exam. 

Monday, January 28th- 1). Complete a written reading log. 2). If you did not hand in your final draft of your writing for the Holes project, please do so by tomorrow! The entire project is due tomorrow!

Tuesday, January 29th- 1). Complete a written reading log. 

Wednesday, January 30th- 1).  Complete a written reading log.  Essay Exam tomorrow on Holes; you may use the novel, vocabulary handouts, and questions we have completed as a guide for your writing. (If needed.)

Thursday, January 31st- 1). There is no homework today! Happy Student Appreciation Day!

Upcoming Exam: Holes-Essay Exam- Thursday, January 31st-Details will be discussed further in class; students may use the novel and any vocabulary handouts for this exam.

 

Grade 6- This week, the students will continue working on their new beverage advertisement projects based on Heaven is for Real. They will be presenting their projects to the class. Next, the students will be working in their Ready New York CCLS English Language Arts books; they will be focusing on the theme “Mysterious Creatures”.  The students will use supporting deals and examples to make inferences about the text.  They will also cite textual evidence to support inferences drawn from the text. Lastly, they will provide an analysis of the text. 

Monday, January 21st- 1). Complete a written reading log. 2). If you did not hand in your final writing for the Heaven is for Real project, please do so by tomorrow!

Tuesday, January 22nd- 1). Complete a written reading log. 

Wednesday, January 23rd- 1). Be sure your reading log is completed from class. 

Thursday, January 24th- 1). There is no homework today! Happy Student Appreciation Day!

 

Grade 7- This week the students will be identifying vocabulary words from their Common Core Enriched Edition Vocabulary Workshop book (Unit 4).  They will be identifying each word’s part of speech, definition, synonyms, and antonyms.  Next, they will be creating illustrations and writing sentences for each word and playing the Sentence Game and Pictionary. They will also be working on a creative story in class with a partner; they will be editing and revising their work and writing/typing a final draft.

Religion- This week, the students will continue to focus on Chapter 5: “Jesus Christ: The Good News”; they will be creating 20 Jeopardy questions, playing “Basketball Jeopardy”, and taking an exam on the chapter as well (next week).

Monday, January 28th- 1). Finish your illustrations and sentences from class today (Unit 4). Tomorrow we will be playing the Sentence Game and Pictionary. 

Tuesday, January 29th- 1). Complete pages 55-59 in the Common Core Enriched Edition Vocabulary Workshop book. Do not complete the “Words in Action”. 

Wednesday, January 30th- 1). Read for 20 minutes; no written reading log is required. 2). Make sure your religion project is completed (The Gospel); Religion exam will be on Tuesday. 

Thursday, January 31st- 1). No written homework today! Happy Student Appreciation Day! 

Upcoming Exams:

1). Unit 4 Vocabulary Tuesday, February 6th

2). Religion- Chapter 5-Wednesday, February 6th (Jeopardy, Tuesday, February 5th)

 

Grade 8- This week, the students will continue working on their murals based on one of the main characters from We Beat the Street . They will also be taking an essay exam on the novel as well. They will be able to use the novel, vocabulary handouts, and questions as a guide. 

Tentative Homework/Testing Schedule: 

Monday, January 21st- 1). Complete a written reading log. 2). Essay exam tomorrow on We Beat the Street; you will be able to use the novel, vocabulary handouts, and questions from class as a guide for your writing (if needed).  3). If you did not hand in your writing for your mural project, please have it in by tomorrow!

Tuesday, January 22nd- 1). There is no written homework today. 2). Essay exam today!

Wednesday, January 23rd- 1). Read for 20 minutes; no written reading log is required. 2). Get your essay exam signed, and make corrections. 

Thursday, January 24th- 1). No written homework today! Happy Student Appreciation Day!

Upcoming Exam: We Beat the Street-Essay Exam- Tuesday, January 29th- students may use the novel, notes, and any vocabulary handouts for this exam.
