Week of February 4th-Febraury 8th

Reminders:

1). State of the Academy Meeting will be taking place on Monday, February 4th, at 7:00 P.M. in the auditorium. ***Parents, if you attend the meeting, your child will receive a NUT day.***

2). Tuesday, February 5th-Box Top Day

3). Progress Reports will be going home on Tuesday, February 5th; they must be signed and sent back by Thursday, February 7th.

4). $2 Dress Down on Wednesday, February 6th- to raise money for our flat screen!

5). There will be a Bake Sale on Thursday, February 7th.

6). Please continue to support Pennies for Patients-we have a weekly class competition! Congratulations to 7th grade for coming in first place by bringing in $74.66! 

 

Grade 5- This week, the students will be identifying Perfect Verb Tenses- Present, Past, and Future Perfect Verb Tenses.  They will be working on writing each of them correctly within sentences and practice identifying the correct tense within context. The students will also be using a picture prompt to develop a creative story using Perfect Verb Tenses. They will be brainstorming, editing, and revising their work in class; they will also be typing or writing their final draft as well.

Tentative Homework/ Testing Schedule:

Monday, February 4th- 1). Make sure your Perfect Tense Chart is completed from class; create a new chart (as we did in class) using five past participles; use the “Verb Chart” handout given in class to help you!  2). Read for 20 minutes; no written reading log is required. 

Tuesday, February 5th- 1).  Write five sentences using present perfect tense, five sentences using past perfect tense, and five sentences using future perfect tense.  Underline the tenses in each sentence. 2). Read for 20 minutes; no written reading log is required. 3). Get your Holes Essay Exam signed, and make corrections. 

Wednesday, February 6th- 1). Review “Verb Chart”-“Past Participles” specifically. 2). Complete Ready New York English Language Arts pages 456-457: “Perfect Verb Tenses”.    3). Read for 20 minutes; no written reading log is required.

Thursday, February 7th- 1). Make sure your final draft of your creative story is completed for tomorrow (most of you were done-nice work today!); underline or highlight the Perfect Verb Tenses throughout the story. 2). Finish your written reading log from our SSR period today.

Grade 6- This week, the students will be identifying how to recognize and correct errors in writing. They will become familiar with proofreading marks, their purposes, and examples of each.  They will be working on activities independently and with a group to locate errors and fix errors.  The students will also be working in their Ready New York CCLS English Language Arts books and analyzing how an author develops a key individual, event, or idea in informational text through facts, examples, and anecdotes.  They will be reading passages as a group and independently and answering multiple choice and short answer questions based on the readings.  Lastly, they will be taking reading comprehension exam as well. 

Tentative Homework/ Testing Schedule:

Monday, February 4th- 1). “Recognizing and Correcting Errors” Worksheet; follow the directions carefully; complete the worksheet just like we did in the Ready New York Book English Language Arts book today! 2). Read for 20 minutes; no written reading log is required.

Tuesday, February 5th- 1). “Paragraph Correction” Worksheet #’s 1 and 2; find the errors and choose the correct answer in the multiple choice section! 2). Read for 20 minutes; no written reading log is required. 3). Reading Comprehension Exam tomorrow!

Wednesday, February 6th- 1). “Paragraph Correction” Worksheet #3; find the errors and choose the correct answer in the multiple choice section! 2). Be sure your reading log is completed from SSR today. 

Thursday, February 7th- 1). Ready New York Book English Language Arts book pages 30-31; complete the “Close Reading” on page 30; underline important parts of the questions, use process of elimination, and be sure to answer the short response question FIRST, and then add the two details to support your answer.

Grade 7- This week, the students will be playing “Basketball Jeopardy” to review Unit 4 vocabulary words (MONDAY); they will be taking an exam on the words as well. Next, they will be identifying Coordinate Adjectives; they will be learning rules to identify coordinate adjectives and writing sentences using them, too.  They will also practice adding and deleting commas within sentences-being sure only coordinate adjectives have commas between them. Lastly, the students will be using a picture prompt to write a creative story using coordinate adjectives. 

Religion- The students will be playing “Basketball Jeopardy” to review Chapter 5; they will be taking an exam on this chapter as well. Next, the students will be focusing on Chapter 6: “Holy Spirit, Helper and Guide”; they will be discussing how they find their way through difficult situations, problems, and events, and how to offer help to others through adversities. They will also be focusing on how the Holy Spirit is always present with the Father and the Son and how the Holy Spirit is active in God’s plan of salvation. 

 Tentative Homework/ Testing Schedule:

*Optional 20 Unit 4 Jeopardy Questions due on Monday! We will be playing “Basketball Jeopardy” on Monday. Be sure to finish your essay from Religion class-page 59.*

Monday, February 4th- 1). “Basketball Jeopardy” today; Unit 4 Vocabulary Exam tomorrow; study! 2). Create 20 Jeopardy questions for Chapter 5-Religion.

Tuesday, February 5th- 1). Study for Chapter 5-Religion exam for tomorrow! 2). Read for 20 minutes; no written reading log is required. 

Wednesday, February 6th- 1). Write ten sentences using coordinate adjectives; highlight the coordinate adjectives in each sentence. 2). Be sure your reading log is completed from SSR today. 

Thursday, February 7th- 1). Bring in your laptop.i-Pad, etc., to type your final draft of your creative story. 2). Free Dress Down tomorrow for bringing in the most money last week for Pennies for Patients! =) Don’t forget we count the money every Friday! =) 3). Read for 20 minutes; no written reading log is required.

Grade 8- This week, the students will be identifying the verbal-Gerunds.  They will be identifying gerunds as a subject, predicate nominative, direct object, and object of a preposition.  The students will be getting a list of rules to be able to identify each and write them correctly in context.  They will also be developing a creative story based on a picture prompt; they must include gerunds in their writing and label each of them.

Tentative Homework/ Testing Schedule:

Monday, February 4th- 1). Write a total of ten sentences using Gerunds- Gerunds as a subject, Gerunds as a Predicate Nominative, Gerunds as a Direct Object, and Gerunds as the Object of a Preposition (write at least two of each). 2). Read for 20 minutes; no written reading log is required. 

Tuesday, February 5th- 1). Make sure pages 251-252: “Gerunds”- are completed in the Ready New York CCLS English Language Arts book; follow the directions carefully.  2). Read for 20 minutes; no written reading log is required. 

Wednesday, February 6th- 1). Review rules for Gerunds! 2). Be sure pages 14 and 15: “The Signs of Language”- are completed in your Ready New York CCLS English Language Arts book.

Thursday, February 7th- 1). Be sure pages 16- 18: from “Language Change”- are completed in your Ready New York CCLS English Language Arts book; the extended response must have an introduction, body, and conclusion; remember you answer the bullet points in the body of your essay. The essay is optional for extra credit.
