Week of February 25th-March 1st

Reminders:

*All of our classes will be reading plays from their readers this week!*

 

Grade 5- This week, the students will be working in their Reading Street reader.  They will be identifying vocabulary words from the play: Wings for the King by Anna Sroda. They will be drawing illustrations and writing sentences with the words and making a prediction with them as well.  The students will then be taking on various roles, and we will be reading the play in class; the students will be focusing on various comprehension questions during and after reading the play.  

Tentative Homework/Testing Schedule:

*Be sure pages 46-to the top of 51 in the Ready New York CCLS English Language Arts book; remember to use process of elimination for the multiple choice questions, and answer each short answer questions with TWO details in your response.* 

*Get your “Perfect Tense” story signed, and make corrections!

Monday, February 25th- 1). Finish your illustrations and sentences from class today! Be detailed!

Tuesday, February 26th- 1). Finish comprehension questions from class; be detailed with your responses! 2). Be sure your reading log is completed from SSR today.

Wednesday, February 27th- 1). Finish your summary from class today based on what we read today; be detailed! 2). Be sure your reading log is completed from SSR today.

Thursday, February 28th- 1). Illustrate one of the scenes from the play: Wings for the King. Write a paragraph to describe your illustration as well! 2). Be sure your reading log is completed from SSR today.

Grade 6- This week, the students will be working in their Reading Street reader.  They will be reading a passage titled: “On Behalf of Women” and using context clues to determine the meaning of each vocabulary word.  These words are found in the play: Elizabeth Blackwell: Medical Pioneer by Joanna Halpert Kraus. They will be writing sentences with the words and making a prediction with them as well.  The students will then be taking on various roles, and we will be reading the play in class; the students will be focusing on various comprehension questions during and after reading the play.  

Tentative Homework/Testing Schedule:

OVER THE BREAK: Get your “Proofreading” Quiz signed, and make corrections!

Monday, February 25th- 1). Finish your sentences from class today. 2). Write a prediction for the play: Elizabeth Blackwell: Medical Pioneer. Observe the pictures throughout the play to help you with your prediction (pages 266-279); use at least five of the vocabulary words!

Tuesday, February 26th- 1). Finish comprehension questions from class; be detailed with your responses! 2). Read for 20 minutes; no written reading log is required. 

Wednesday, February 27th- 1). Finish comprehension questions from class (pages 384-389); be detailed with your responses! 2). Be sure your reading log is completed from SSR today.

Thursday, February 28th- 1). Illustrate one of the scenes from the play: Elizabeth Blackwell: Medical Pioneer. Write a paragraph to describe your illustration as well! 2). Be sure your reading log is completed from SSR today.

Grade 7- This week, the students will be working in their Common Core Literature book.  They will first be identifying vocabulary words from the play: from: The Monsters Are Due On Maple Street by Rod Serling. They will be writing sentences with the words and making a prediction about the play with most of the words as well.  The students will then be taking on various roles, and we will be reading the play in class; they will be focusing on various comprehension questions during and after reading the play.  

Religion- This week, the student will continue focusing on Chapter 6: “Holy Spirit, Helper and Guide”. They will be discussing how the Holy Spirit came to the disciples at Pentecost and how the Holy Spirit is always guiding the Church.  The students will also be reading about Blessed Pope John Paul II, working on the chapter review, and focusing on the essay question: “How is the Holy Spirit at work in the Church?”

*In preparation for the NYS Math Exam, the 7th grade will be attending an extra math class during the day every Tuesday and Wednesday until the week of March 18th. March 12th and March 13th will be the last of the extra classes, so that grade 6 can begin their extra classes. After the Easter recess, a new schedule will begin for the 7th grade.*

Tentative Homework/Testing Schedule:

Monday, February 25th- 1). Write sentences with each of the vocabulary words from class today. Make sure they are detailed! Highlight or underline the word in each sentence. We will be playing the sentence game tomorrow!

Tuesday, February 26th- 1). Finish your prediction for the play: The Monsters Are Due On Maple Street from class today. Be sure you used at least five vocabulary words. 2). Read for 20 minutes; no written reading log is required today. 

Wednesday, February 27th- 1). Finish your comprehension questions from class today from The Monsters Are Due On Maple Street; be detailed! 2). Read for 20 minutes; no written reading log is required. 

Thursday, February 28th- 1). Summarize what we read today based on The Monsters Are Due On Maple Street; create three higher order thinking questions with answers. 2). Read for 20 minutes; no written reading log is required.  3). Religion-Be sure the handout based on Chapter 6: “Holy Spirit, Helper and Guide”-pages 66-68- is completed; I am collecting it tomorrow!

Grade 8- This week, the students will be working in their Common Core Literature book.  They will first be identifying vocabulary words from the play: from: The Miracle Worker by William Gibson. They will be writing sentences with the words and making a prediction about the play with most of the words as well.  The students will then be taking on various roles, and we will be reading the play in class; they will be focusing on various comprehension questions during and after reading the play.  

Tentative Homework/Testing Schedule:

Monday, February 25th- 1). Finish your sentences and illustrations from class today. 2). Get your “Gerund” Exam signed, and make corrections. 

Tuesday, February 26th- 1). Make sure your prediction is completed from class today; be sure to use all the vocabulary words. 2). Read for 20 minutes; no written reading log is required. 

Wednesday, February 27th- 1). Complete the comprehension questions from the handout-(Act I pages 510-517). 2). Read for 20 minutes; no written reading log is required. 

Thursday, February 28th-  1). Complete the comprehension questions from the handout-(Act III pages 517-522).
