Week of February 24th-February 28th

Grade 5- This week, the students will be finishing the novel-Wonder.  They will be reading as a class and independently, working on various writing activities throughout the reading.  The students will also be taking a reading comprehension/vocabulary exam (vocabulary only from Parts 5-8/reading certain chapters independently. We will be watching Wonder the movie the following week!

Tentative Homework/Testing Schedule:

Monday, February 24th- 1. Pages 271-281 must be completed from Wonder; be sure to fill in the main idea charts; for each chapter write ONE main idea. Remember what is each chapter MAINLY about.

Tuesday, February 25th- 1. Pages 282-293 must be completed from Wonder; choose one chapter to illustrate/explain (handout). 

Wednesday, February 26th- 1. Pages 294-301 must be completed from Wonder; summarize the pages. 2). Exam tomorrow on Parts 5-8 Vocabulary /reading comprehension-you cannot study for the reading comprehension part. 

Thursday, February 27th- 1. Vocabulary (Parts 5-8)/ Reading Comprehension Exam today; there is no written homework.

Grade 6- This week, the students will be identifying Unit 4 Vocabulary words from their Common Core Enriched Edition Vocabulary Workshop books. They will be reading an <Expository Essay> “The Art and Science of Traditional Healing” and using context clues to decipher meaning of some of the words; they will then be identifying each word’s part of speech, definition, synonyms, and antonyms.  They will be writing sentences with each word and engaging in various writing activities to gain a better understanding of each word. Lastly, they will be working on a writing prompt based on holistic approaches to medicine. 

Tentative Homework/Testing Schedule:

Monday, February 24th- 1. Make sure your sentences are completed from class based on Unit 4 words. 

Tuesday, February 25th- 1. Common Core Enriched Edition Vocabulary Workshop pages 57-59: “Completing the Sentence” and “Vocabulary in Context”.  Do not complete the “Writing: Words in Action”. 2. Finish your reading log from SSR.  3. Correct the Unit 4 sentences; I will be checking this tomorrow. 

Wednesday, February 26th- 1. Finish your reading log from SSR.

Thursday, February 27th- 1. Read for 20 minutes; there no written homework today!

Grade 7- This week, the students will be identifying Unit 4 Vocabulary words from their Common Core Enriched Edition Vocabulary Workshop books. They will be reading an <Informational Essay> “Coyotes in Legend and Myth” and using context clues to decipher meaning of some of the words; they will then be identifying each word’s part of speech, definition, synonyms, and antonyms.  They will be writing sentences with each word and engaging in various writing activities to gain a better understanding of each word. Lastly, they will be writing a creative story using the words. 

Religion- This week, the students will continue focusing on Chapter 5: “Jesus Christ: The Good News”. They will be discussing how we meet God in his Son, Jesus Christ and how we meet Jesus in the four Gospels.  We will also be reading about the synoptic Gospels and how the Gospel of John explores the mystery of the Incarnation. The students will also be discussing the season of Lent.

Grade 8- This week, the students will be identifying Unit 4 Vocabulary words from their Common Core Enriched Edition Vocabulary Workshop books. They will be identifying each word’s part of speech, definition, synonyms, and antonyms.  They will also be writing sentences with each word and engaging in various writing activities to gain a better understanding of the words. Lastly, they will be working on a writing prompt that focuses on literature and if it can serve as a preparation of remedying social ills in society.

Monday, February 24th- 1. Make sure your sentences are completed from class based on Unit 4 words. 

Tuesday, February 25th- 1. Common Core Enriched Edition Vocabulary Workshop pages 57-59: “Completing the Sentence” and “Vocabulary in Context”.  Do not complete the “Writing: Words in Action”. 2. Read for 20 minutes; no written reading log is required. 

Wednesday, February 26th- 1. Finish your reading log from SSR. 2. Get “Verb Mood” Exam signed, and make corrections. 

Thursday, February 27th- 1. Read for 20 minutes; there no written homework today!
