Week of February 11th-February 15th

Reminders:

1). Please continue to donate to Pennies for Patients! Thank you to all who have been helping support such an amazing cause!

2). Grades 5-8 will go to mass at 8:30 a.m. on Monday, February 11th; classes may bring in a snack for after mass. They will meet with Fr. Marc at 1:35 p.m.

3). $2.00 Dress Down Day-Valentine’s Day-Thursday, February 14th

4). School will be closed for February break- Monday, February 18th-Friday, February 22nd.  There is no written homework for this week; however, please read for 20 minutes each day. School will resume on Monday, February 25th.

 

Grade 5- This week, the students will be playing “Basketball Jeopardy” to review Perfect Verb Tenses; they will be taking an exam on this topic as well. Next, they will be working in their Ready New York CCLS English Language Arts books.  They will be reading and responding to an article: from “He Inspired Others: An Interview with Cesar’s Grandson” focusing on how to highlight/underline important parts of questions, going back to a text and highlighting vital parts, and answering short responses using text details. Next, they will be using details and examples from a text when explaining what the text says. They will also use details and examples from a text along with personal knowledge when explaining inferences drawn from the text. Lastly, they will also be drawing evidence from informational texts to support analysis and reflection.

Monday, February 11th- 1). Review for “Perfect Verb Tenses” Exam for tomorrow! Go over the “Past Participles” on the handout that I had given out last week. 2). Read for 20 minutes; no written reading log is required.

Tuesday, February 12th- 1). Complete a written reading log.

Wednesday, February 13th- 1). Make sure your written reading log is completed from class. 

Thursday, February 14th- 1). Complete pages 42, 43, and 45 in your Ready New York CCLS English Language Arts book; use process of elimination for the multiple choice questions; be sure to answer the question first for the short response question; then add your details (the quotes).  Happy Valentine’s Day! 2). Get your “Perfect Tense” Exam signed, and make corrections.

Grade 6- This week, the students will be taking a quiz on proofreading skills. Next, they will continue working in their Ready New York CCLS English Language Arts books.  They will be using explicitly stated details in a literary text about a character (e.g., appearance, actions, inner thoughts, spoken words) along with background knowledge to make inferences about that character, such as his/her feelings, attitude, personality, relationships, and inner conflicts.

Monday, February 11th- 1).”Proofreading” quiz today! 2). Complete a written reading log. 

Tuesday, February 12th- 1). Complete a written reading log.

Wednesday, February 13th- 1). Make sure your written reading log is completed from class.

Grade 7- This week, the students will share their “Creative Coordinate Adjectives” story. Next, they will be working in their Ready New York CCLS English Language Arts books.  They will be using textual evidence, along with background knowledge, to make reasonable inferences about the characters, setting, and plot of a literary text.  They will also be citing two or more pieces of textual evidence to support inferences drawn from the text.  

Religion- This week, the students will continue focusing on Chapter 6: “Holy Spirit, Helper and Guide”. They will be discussing how the Holy Spirit came to the disciples at Pentecost and how the Holy Spirit is always guiding the Church.  The students will also be working in groups to create stained glass windows that reflect the symbols of the Holy Spirit. 

Tentative Homework/Testing Schedule:

*Make sure your “Coordinate Adjectives” story or play is completed for Monday. Your final copy must be written neatly or typed.*

Monday, February 11th- 1). (“Basketball Jeopardy” today!) Review for “Gerunds” Exam for tomorrow! Go over the handouts from class and Ready New York CCLS English Language Arts book pages 251-252; review ALL of the rules on how to identify each specific type of gerund-subject, predicate nominative, direct object, and object of a preposition. 2). Read for 20 minutes; no written reading log is required.
