Week of December 3rd-December 7th

Reminders:

1). First Trimester will end on Monday, December 3rd.

2). Second Trimester begins on Tuesday, December 4th.

3). 7th and 8th Grade will be attending Confession on Wednesday, December 5th.

4). There will be a Bake Sale on Thursday, December 6th.

5). Report Cards will be distributed on Thursday, December 6th; dismissal is at 12:00 P.M.

6). Trimester One Awards Ceremony will follow our school Mass on Friday, December 7th. There will be no after school on this day, too.

 

Grade 5- This week, the students will be reading and summarizing  Chapter 6 in Holes; on Tuesday, they will be taking an exam on the vocabulary words from Chapters 1-6 and answering comprehension questions as well.  Next, the students will be identifying vocabulary words that will be found in Chapters 7/9-10; they will be creating riddles with each word; they will be sharing their riddles with their classmates; lastly, the students will be reading Chapter 7 and discussing Stanley’s great-grandfather’s experience with Madame Zeroni and the supposed “curse” on the Yelnats family.

Tentative Homework/Testing Schedule:

Monday, December 3rd- 1). Finish your summary based on Chapter 6; exam on Chapters 1-6 will be tomorrow;  know the part of speech, definition, and spelling of each word!

Tuesday, December 4th- 1). Exam today! There will be no written homework.

Wednesday, December 5th- 1). Finish your riddles from class today; be creative! 2). Get Holes exam signed, and make corrections; if you left a comma out, please rewrite the entire sentence with the comma. 

Thursday, December 6th- 1). Create an illustration to describe one of the scenes in Chapter 7; write a paragraph describing the scene, too!

Exam: Tuesday, December 4th- Holes-Chapters 1-6 (Be able to spell the vocabulary words and know their parts of speech/definitions/spelling); there will also be inferential and critical thinking questions on the exam; you may use your novel for these.

 

Grade 6- This week, the students will be drawing three illustrations, in sequential order, to sum up the Prologue and Chapters 1-3 in Heaven is for Real. They will be taking an exam on these chapters as well. Next, the students will be identifying new vocabulary words from Chapters 4-6 and creating riddles with each of them; they will be sharing them with their classmates, too. They will be reading Chapters 4-6 and will be discussing Colton’s decline in health.

Tentative Homework/Testing Schedule:

Monday, December 3rd- 1). Finish your illustrations to sum up the Prologue and Chapters 1-3; be sure to explain them, too! (Exam on the Prologue and Chapters 1-3 will be tomorrow; know the part of speech, definition, and spelling of each word!)

Tuesday, December 4th- 1). Exam today! There will be no written homework tonight.

Wednesday, December 5th- 1). Create riddles for the vocabulary words from Chapters 4-6; be creative! 2). Get Heaven is for Real exam signed, and make corrections. 

Thursday, December 6th- 1). Read Chapter 6; summarize, and create a new title for the chapter.  

Exam: Tuesday, December 4th- Heaven is for Real-the Prologue Chapters and 1-3 (Be able to spell the vocabulary words and know their parts of speech/definitions); there will also be inferential and critical thinking questions on the exam; you may use your novel for these.

 

Grade 7- This week, the students will be reading and analyzing the poem, “Nothing Gold Can Stay” by Robert Frost. They will be working in groups to analyze each line and explain how it relates to the novel-specifically Ponyboy and Johnny.  They will be reading Chapters 5 and 6 as well and discuss Dally’s role in helping Ponyboy and Johnny. They will also be discussing the fire scene that occurred in the church and how it affects Ponyboy, Johnny, and Dally. 

Religion- When classes meet, the students will be focusing on the seasons of Advent and Christmas.

Monday, December 3rd- 1). Read the first five pages in The Outsiders-pages 68 to the top of 75. Summarize these pages, and answer the following:

1). How do you think Johnny felt while going to get some necessities? Would you have gone to get some items? Give details.

2). Why does Ponyboy feel as if his pride was taken away from him?  Do you agree with how he felt? Explain. 

Tuesday, December 4th- 1). We will be finishing Chapter 5 as a class today; create three short answer questions with answers based on the reading. 

Wednesday, December 5th-    1). Finish reading Chapter 6; summarize the chapter. 2). Exam tomorrow on The Outsiders-Chapters 1-6; be sure to review the vocabulary words (part of speech, definitions, and spelling). You will be able to use the novel for the comprehension part of the exam.

Thursday, December 6th- 1). Exam today; there will be no written homework.

Grade 8- This week, the students will continue reading We Beat the Street and be introduced to George Jenkins and analyze his feelings about school; they will also be reading about Sampson and how his stealing experience affected him.  Next, the students will  be discussing the financial woes of Rameck’s family and how he steps up as a man to help his family; lastly, the students will see how a trip to the dentist changed George’s life forever.

Monday, December 3rd- 1). Finish reading Chapter 3: We Beat the Streetsummarize the chapter, and answer the following:

A). How does George feel about school? Give two details to support your answer.

B). How would you describe Miss Johnson’s character? Give a detail to support your answer. 

C). Do you feel Miss Johnson is a positive role model for students? Give two details to support your answer. 

2). Get the essay: “Challenges Faced and Goals to Stay Focused” signed. 

Tuesday, December 4th- 1). Read Chapter 4: We Beat the Street; answer the following:

1). In the beginning of the chapter, why do you think seeing drug dealers didn’t phase the boys? Would you have reacted the same as they did? Explain.

2). Do you think Sampson felt regret in this chapter? Give details to support your answer.

Wednesday, December 5th- 1). Answer the two critical thinking questions from class today; then create three more questions with answers. (Chapter 5-We Beat the Street)

Thursday, December 6th- 1). Exam tomorrow on We Beat the StreetChapters 1-6; review vocabulary (spelling/definitions/part of speech); you will be able to use your book for the comprehension questions.  

Exam: Friday, December 7th- We Beat the StreetChapters 1-6 (Be able to spell the vocabulary words and know their parts of speech/definitions.); there will also be inferential and critical thinking questions on the exam; you may use your novel for these.
