This week the students will continue their study of New Spain. They will be exploring when, where, and why the Spanish colonized North America. They will also be analyzing how the Spanish tried to maintain control of North America. Lastly, the class will be discussing the introduction of slavery into the Americas.

This week the students will begin their study of ancient Egypt. They will begin by analyzing the geography/location of Egypt. They will be discussing the importance of the Nile River and how it impacted the development of ancient Egypt. Lastly, the students will be analyzing how Egypt became united.
This week the student will begin their study of the beginnings of slavery in the Americas. They will be discussing how European diseases wiped out much of the Native American population, causing colonists to look for a new labor force. They will also be discussing how/why the Europeans enslaved millions of Africans and sent them to work on their colonies. Lastly, the students will be analyzing how slaves lived in the Americas.

Finish the Section Assessment on page 61 #s 1-4.
History and Geography: Analyze and read: “The Atlantic Slave Trade” on pages 62-63.

The students will continue their study of immigration in the late 1800s and early 1900s. They will be analyzing how the immigration patterns changed during the late 1800s as new immigrants arrived from Europe, Asia, and Mexico. They will also be exploring how these new immigrants adjusted to their new life in America. The students will be discussing why some Americans opposed immigration and how they worked to restrict it. The class will then be focusing on the growth of cities and how both immigrants and native-born Americans moved to growing urban areas in record numbers in the late 1800s and early 1900s. Lastly, they will be analyzing how new technology and ideas helped cities change and adapt to this rapid urban growth.

Over the next few weeks the class will be focusing on the seasons of Advent and Christmas. The students will be working within a group to create an Advent and Christmas Board Game. The students will be following a detailed rubric that was given out in class.
