Week of April 1st-April 5th

Reminders:

1). The NYS ELA Exam will be taking place on Tuesday, April 2nd, and Wednesday, April 3rd.

2). The make-up day for the NYS ELA Exam is on Thursday, April 4th.

3). There will be a Bake Sale on Thursday, April 4th.

4). Trimester Two Awards Ceremony will take place after the 8:30 a.m. Mass on Friday, April 5th.

5). There is a 12:00 dismissal on Friday, April 5th. 

6). Book report projects will take place after the Easter break. 

 

Grade 5- This week, the students will work on creative stories or plays.  Each story or play will include the various comma usage taught last week: yes and no, tag questions, and direct address; the students will also be taking an exam on these topics.  It is possible classes may not meet due to the NYS ELA Exam; please check the website daily!

Tentative Homework/ Testing Schedule:

Monday, April 1st- 1).  Complete a written reading log.

Tuesday, April 2nd- 1). Make sure your reading log is completed from SSR. 

Wednesday, April 3rd– 1). Review “Comma Usage”: handout and sentences from class; test tomorrow! 2). Your “Comma Usage Story” is due on Friday!

Thursday, April 4th– 1). Make sure your reading log is completed from SSR. 2). Get the Comma Usage exam signed, and make corrections.

Grades 6 and 7- This week, the 6th and 7th graders will finish practicing for the NYS ELA Exam.  They will be taking Session 1 (Passages and Multiple Choice Questions) on Tuesday, April 2nd, and  Session 2 (Passages and Written Responses) on Wednesday, April 3rd. When classes meet for the rest of the week they will be working on “Greek and Latin Word Parts”; the students will become familiar with certain root words, affixes, prefixes, and suffixes.  They will be reading a passage and identifying certain roots and developing meanings for those words. 

Very Important:

Please review the “NYS English Language Arts Outline and Tips” handout. Go over the common terms/questions that you may see on the exam. 

*There will be no written homework this week; however, I would like all students to read their novels at least 20 minutes each day; please have #2 sharpened pencils for testing.  Be sure to get plenty of rest each night before the exam, and have a nutritious breakfast in the morning. Don’t forget to bring in snacks.* 

Grade 7 Religion- The students will finish their Lent, Triduum, and Easter children’s book this week! (This may change due to testing)

 

Grade 8-  This week the students will begin working on  creative stories or plays using “Present and Past Participles”; they will be taking an exam on this topic as well.  It is possible classes may not meet due to the NYS ELA Exam; please check the website daily!

Tuesday, April 2nd- 1). No written homework today; read for 20 minutes. 

Wednesday, April 3rd– 1). Your Past and Present Participle story is due tomorrow! 2). Review the “Present and Past Participles” handout and sentences from class; test tomorrow!

Thursday, April 4th– 1). Read for 20 minutes; no written reading log is required. 2). Get the Past and Present Participles exam signed, and make corrections.
