Week of October 9th-October 13th

Reminders: 

Monday, October 9th-Columbus Day-School Closed.

Tuesday, October 10th-Monday, October 16th-TerraNova Exam will be taking place.  Be sure to have a snack and #2 pencils each day. 

Tuesday, October 10th, the Chocolate Sale begins.

Wednesday, October 11th, Zumba will begin. 

 

Grade 5–  Due to the TerraNova State Exam this week, our schedule will be different.  (The following is all tentative.) For the times that we meet, the students will be finishing and presenting their newspaper project based on the biography-Leonardos Horse. They will also be working on Unit 2 in their Common Core Enriched Edition Vocabulary Workshop book. They will be reading a Historical Nonfiction passage: Sybil Ludingtons Ride and using context clues to develop a meaning for the vocabulary words.  We will then be reviewing each words part of speech, definition, synonyms, and antonyms. They will be creating illustrations and writing a sentence using each word.  We will be playing Pictionary and the Sentence Game to review each of the words.  

*There will be no written homework for the week; please be sure to read for at least 20 minutes each night.  Nonfiction novels must be completed by Wednesday, October 25th. 

 

Grade 6– Due to the TerraNova State Exam this week, our schedule will be different.  (The following is all tentative.) For the times that we meet, the students will be finishing and presenting their newspaper project based on the historical fiction story-Old Yeller. They will also be working on Unit 2 in their Common Core Enriched Edition Vocabulary Workshop book. They will be reading an <Interview> titled West End School Has Comestible Curriculum and using context clues to develop a meaning for the vocabulary words.  We will then be reviewing each words part of speech, definition, synonyms, and antonyms. They will be creating illustrations and writing a sentence using each word.  We will be playing Pictionary and the Sentence Game to review each of the words.  

*There will be no written homework for the week; please be sure to read for at least 20 minutes each night.  Nonfiction novels must be completed by Wednesday, October 25th. 

Grade 7– Due to the TerraNova State Exam this week, our schedule will be different.  (The following is all tentative.) For the times that we meet, the students will be finishing and presenting their Movie DVD project based on the story-Two Kinds. They will also be working on Unit 2 in their Common Core Enriched Edition Vocabulary Workshop book. They will be reading a <Letter to the Editor> titled In Poor Taste and using context clues to develop a meaning for the vocabulary words.  We will then be reviewing each words part of speech, definition, synonyms, and antonyms. They will be creating illustrations and writing a sentence using each word.  We will be playing Pictionary and the Sentence Game to review each of the words.  

Religion– For the times that we meet for Religion, we will be focusing on Chapter 3: The Blessed Trinity. We will be discussing what relationships mean to each of us and coming up with elements that make up a good friendship or family relationship.  They will be developing a skit that conveys the following: What message about relationships would you like to tell others?

Tuesday, October 10th-Get Religion Exam(Chapter 2: “The Truth Revealed”) signed, and make corrections. 

Wednesday, October 11th- Get “The Wright Brothers” Reading Comprehension quiz signed, and make corrections.  You must explain why you are choosing your new answer.  Partial credit back will be awarded for correct answers/explanations.

For the times that we meet, the students will be finishing and presenting their Movie DVD project based on the story-The Tell-Tale Heart. They will also be working on Unit 2 in their Common Core Enriched Edition Vocabulary Workshop book. They will be reading an <Expository Essay> titled Instant Cash and using context clues to develop a meaning for the vocabulary words.  We will then be reviewing each words part of speech, definition, synonyms, and antonyms. They will be creating illustrations and writing a sentence using each word.  We will be playing Pictionary and the Sentence Game to review each of the words.  

*There will be no written homework for the week; please be sure to read for at least 20 minutes each night.  Nonfiction novels must be completed by Wednesday, October 25th.
