Week of October 23rd-October 27th

                               Ms. Amuso ELA- 5-8/Religion-7          

               REMINDERS:

1). On Monday, October 23rd, the Cheesecake Sale ends.

2). On Monday. October 23rd, winter uniform begins.

3). On Tuesday, October 24th, Progress Reports will be distributed; please have these signed and brought back by Thursday, October 26th. 

4). On Friday, October 27th, the Pumpkin Patch will be taking place.

5). The Halloween Dance is Friday, October 27th from 5 p.m.- 8 p.m.

 

Grade 5– This week, the students will be engaging in a game of “Basketball Jeopardy” to review Unit 2 Vocabulary words; they will be taking a Spelling/Vocabulary Exam on Unit 2 as well. Starting Wednesday, the students will be working on an independent book report project.  Using a model as a guide, the students will be creating an “Instagram Page”; they must provide six illustrations in sequential order that are accompanied by three to four hashtags which are significant to the nonfiction book they have read.  Along with this project, the student will be writing a summary of the novel-focusing on the beginning, middle, and end of the novel.  They will be writing a rough draft, editing their rough draft, and typing their final draft. A rubric will be given and must be followed throughout this entire project. 

Tentative Homework/Testing Schedule:

*Nonfiction novels must be completed by Wednesday, October 25th! 

Monday, October 23rd- 1). Please read for 20 minutes. 2). Study for Unit 2 Spelling/Vocabulary Exam! (We will be playing Jeopardy today!)

Tuesday, October 24th- 1). Be sure your reading log is completed from class today. 2). Be ready to work on your in class book report project tomorrow!

Wednesday, October 25th- 1). Write a rough draft of your book report summary; remember to use transition words and 5th grade level vocabulary. Only include the MOST important parts of the beginning, middle, and end of the novel. Indent for each new paragraph.  Use a red or a different color pen to show editing/revisions made. 2). Get your Unit 2 Spelling/Vocabulary exam signed, and make corrections. 

Thursday, October 26th- 1). Type anything you need for your project (hashtags must be typed). 2). Type your final draft of your book report summary; be sure to have the following heading at the top:

Upcoming Exam: Tuesday, October 24th-Spelling/Vocabulary Unit 2 (Jeopardy on Monday, October 23rd)

 

Grade 7– This week, the students will be engaging in a game of “Basketball Jeopardy” to review Unit 2 Vocabulary words; they will be taking a Spelling/Vocabulary Exam on Unit 2 as well. Starting Wednesday, the students will be working on an independent book report project.  Using a model as a guide, the students will be creating a “Story Quilt”; they must provide four major symbols that represent the novel; these symbols must be accompanied by a well-written and descriptive paragraph.  The students will have a total of nine boxes for this project; specific instructions will be modeled in class, but the remaining boxes must be covered with any sort of design paper or wrapping paper. Along with this project, the student will be writing a summary of the novel-focusing on the beginning, middle, and end of the novel.  They will be writing a rough draft, editing their rough draft, and typing their final draft.   A rubric will be given and must be followed throughout this entire project. 

Religion- (The students will be taking an exam on Chapter 3: “The Blessed Trinity” on Friday, October 27th; we will not be playing Jeopardy for this exam; however, if the students provide 20 Jeopardy questions for the chapter, they will receive one to two points on their exam).  

This week, the students will be working on a “Saint Book Jacket” Project in honor of All Saint’s Day.  Using research, the students will provide a creative title and picture that represents their saint for their cover.  Within the book, they will provide 15 chapter titles that describe important facts and information about the saint’s life and two symbols that represent the saint and are explained throughly.  Lastly, on the back cover, they will incorporate a summary about their saint’s life.

Study for Chapter 3: “The Blessed Trinity” Exam! 2). Bring in any sort of design paper or wrapping paper to cover the remaining squares in your quilt for tomorrow! 3). Type your final draft of your book report summary and the descriptions; make sure the descriptions will fit in the box!; be sure to have the following heading at the top:
