Week of October 16th, 2017

5th Grade
The students will be examining the lives of the Ancient Indians. They will be describing the type of settlements these ancient peoples lived in. They will be exploring the impact that technology and agriculture had on the Indians.

10/17: Create sentences for the vocabulary words on page 62. Make sure that your sentences make sense and they explain the words. The class will be playing the Sentence Game tomorrow.

10/18: Finish filling in the outline for “Hunters and Gatherers” on pages 62-63.

10/19: Continue reading and picking out important facts for “A Time of Change” on pages 64-65. Remember to only pick out what is important and to use short phrases and topics! DO NOT COPY EVERYTHING!

10/20: STUDY! Quiz- Wednesday: “Ancient Indians” on pages 62- 67. Ten Dart Game questions and answers are due on Tuesday.

6th Grade
The class will continue focusing on the Agricultural Revolution. They will be discussing how farming changed people’s lives, and they will be examining what life was like during the Neolithic Age. Lastly, the students will be exploring the characteristic of these early civilizations.

10/16: STUDY! Quiz- Friday: “The Agricultural Revolution” on pages 62-69. Ten Dart Game questions are due on Thursday.

10/17: Worksheet–  Read:“The End of the Neolithic Age” and “Civilizations Emerge” on pages 67-69. Then answer the questions on the worksheet.

10/19: The class will be playing the Dart Game as a review for the quiz.

10/20: The class will be taking a quiz on “The Agricultural Revolution”.

7th Grade
The students will continue their study of Europe before transatlantic travel. They will be exploring the Greek and Roman forms of government. Then they will be discussing the Middle Ages and the impact the Renaissance had on Europe.

10/16: STUDY! Jeopardy- Thursday and Test- Friday: “Europe Before Transatlantic Travel” on pages 22-27. 20 Jeopardy questions are due on Thursday.

*YOU MUST FINISH YOUR MIDDLE AGES CARTOON!  IT WILL BE COLLECTED AND GRADED TOMORROW!*

8th Grade
The students will continue their study of the Civil War. They will be analyzing what daily life was like for civilians and soldiers during the war. They will be also be discussing the causes and effects of the Emancipation Proclamation and how African Americans participated in the war. Lastly, the class will be discussing the opposition President Lincoln faced during this point of the Civil War.

10/17: Read– “African Americans Participate in the War” and “Growing Opposition” on pages 531-533. Then answer the questions below. You must also create a chart depicting why African Americans joined the Union Army and the hardships they faced. The chart will be collected and graded as a Journal Topic.

1. Why did the 54th Massachusetts Infantry become the most celebrated African American unit of the Civil War?
2. How did Frederick Douglas believe that military service would help African Americans?
3. How did African Americans support the Union?
4. Who opposed the war, and how did Lincoln respond to the conflict?

10/18: STUDY! Jeopardy- Monday and Test- Tuesday: “Daily Life During the War” on page 528-534. 20 Jeopardy questions are due on Monday.

10/19: Finish answering the questions from “A Soldier’s Letter Home”. Remember, this assignment will be collected and graded as a Journal Topic.

Religion
The students will continue exploring the Book of Genesis. They will be reading and discussing the similarities and differences between the Creation Stories. They will be focusing on the truth that God is the source of all life, and that human beings are created in Gods image and likeness.

10/17: STUDY! Jeopardy- Friday and Test- Monday: “Creation” on pages 32-42. 20 Jeopardy questions are due on Friday.

10/18: STUDY!

10/19: Page 42 must be completed. 20 Jeopardy questions are due tomorrow.
