Reminders

*All the students received a spelling tracker handout today; they are to always write down their incorrect spelling words with the correct spelling of the word. This paper is to stay in their ELA Section of their binder. They can use it for all classes whenever they misspell a word. When they run out of room on the handout, I will provide a new one.*

 

Grade 5-This week, the students will be taking a Reading Comprehension Quiz.  This will include one passage with multiple choice and short answer responses.  Next, the students will be working in their Ready New York CCLS English Language Arts Book and focusing on “Punctuating Titles and Works”; they will be discussing which types of works get underlined, quotations, and italicized. They will also be identifying “Greek and Latin Word Parts” in which they will be identifying various root words and affixes (prefixes and suffixes). The students will be working on various examples for each of these topics which we will review thoroughly in class. 

Tentative Homework/Testing Schedule:

Monday, November 6th- 1). Read for 20 minutes today; no written reading log is required. (Reading Comprehension Quiz today!)

Tuesday, November 7th- 1). Be sure your reading log is completed from class today!

Wednesday, November 8th 1). Be sure your reading log is completed from class today!

Upcoming Quiz: Reading Comprehension Quiz- Monday, November 6th

 

Grade 6-This week, the students will be taking a Reading Comprehension Quiz.  This will include one passage with multiple choice and short answer responses.  Next, the students will be working in their Ready New York CCLS English Language Arts Book and focusing on “Recognizing and Correcting Errors” in which they will review proofreading marks, their purpose, and examples.  They will also be identifying “Greek and Latin Word Parts” in which they will be identifying various root words and affixes (prefixes and suffixes). The students will be working on various examples for each of these topics which we will review thoroughly in class.

Upcoming Quiz: Reading Comprehension Quiz- Monday, November 6th

 

Grade 7-This week, the students will be taking a Reading Comprehension Quiz.  This will include one passage with multiple choice and short answer responses.  Next, the students will be working in their Ready New York CCLS English Language Arts Book and focusing on identifying “Context Clues”; they will identify and review context clues as: restatement, example, cause and effect, and comparison and contrast.  They will also be identifying “Greek and Latin Word Parts” in which they will be identifying various root words and affixes (prefixes and suffixes). The students will be working on various examples for each of these topics which we will review thoroughly in class. 

Religion– This week, the students will continue focusing on Chapter 4: “God, Our Loving Father”.  We will be reading and discussing about how God loves all he has created and how He invites us into a loving relationship with him.  Next, we will be discussing how God is merciful and gives laws out of love and how Jesus Christ is the greatest sign of God’s love. 

Tentative Homework/Testing Schedule:

Monday, November 6th- 1). Make sure the following was done in class: Read, highlight, and outline pages 44-45 in your religion book; be sure to include “What’s in a Word?” in your outline. Complete BOTH activities as well. (Reading Comprehension Quiz today!)

Upcoming Quiz: Reading Comprehension Quiz- Monday, November 6th

 

Grade 8-This week, the students will be taking a Reading Comprehension Quiz.  This will include one passage with multiple choice and a critical thinking question.  Next, the students will be working in their Ready New York CCLS English Language Arts Book and focusing on identifying “Puns and Verbal Irony”; they will be focusing on how to distinguish between the two forms of figurative language.  They will also be identifying “Greek and Latin Word Parts” in which they will be identifying various root words and affixes (prefixes and suffixes). The students will be working on various examples for each of these topics which we will review thoroughly in class.
