This week the students will continue their study of the world in the 1400s. They will be identifying powerful Native American empires in Central and South America. They will also be exploring the changes brought about by the Renaissance. Lastly, the students will be analyzing the economic motivations for exploration in Asia.
11/3: STUDY! Jeopardy- Tuesday and Test- Wednesday: “The World in the 1400s” on pages 106-111. 20 Jeopardy are due on Tuesday!

11/8: The class will be taking a test on “The World in the 1400s”.
Project: “Explorers of the 1400s and 1500s” research is due on Monday, November 13th. This project will be done in class with the exception of finding research and typing the final draft of the Interview. The students were given a detailed rubric in class to follow.
This week the students will be continuing their study of Ancient Mesopotamia. They will be working with partners to create a Mesopotamian city-state based on what we have studied. The groups will be following a detailed rubric to guide them through the project.
11/3: Mesopotamian City-State Project– Materials are due on Monday! Make sure that your group has one shoebox, clay, and whatever other materials your group has decided on.
11/6-11/8: In class this week, the students will be working on their City-State Dioramas.
11/6: Homework: “Ancient Civilizations” Worksheet Packet- The students will be working on completing this packet this week. They should be reading, highlighting, and taking notes on the briefs. Once the packet is finished, the class will be taking an open note- book test. The students will be able to use the notes they took but will not be able to look at the actual packet. When taking notes, makes sure that you are not copying everything but you are using short phrases, names, and dates.

This week, the students will continue their study of European exploration. They will analyze the voyages that the Vikings took to North America and discuss the reasons why they didn’t set up permanent colonies there. They will also be discussing the impact that Prince Henry of Portugal had on ocean exploration. Lastly, the students will be examining the voyages of explorers such as: Dias, Da Gama, Columbus, and Magellan, and the impact they had on trade, travel, and new settlements in the Americas.

11/8: Create riddles for the Key Terms and People on page 46. Make sure that your illustrations are completed. The class will be playing Pick the Pic and the Riddle Game on Monday.
The students will begin their study of the Second Industrial Revolution. They will be discussing the impact that the Bessemer Process had on America. They will also be analyzing the important inventions of Thomas Edison, Alexander Graham Bell, Henry Ford, and the Wright Brothers and the impact these inventions had on America in the late 1800s. Lastly, the class will be discussing that the growth of big business in the late 1800s led to the creation of monopolies.
11/6: Read- “The Rush of Inventions” on pages 617-618. Then answer the questions below:
1.What advances were made in communication and transportation?
2.How did telephones improve communication? How do you think telephones and automobiles changed the lives of people who used them?
3.What contribution did Henry Ford make to the car making industry? 4.What impact did this have on America?
11/8: Create riddles for the Key Terms and People on page 619. Make sure that your illustrations are completed. The class will be playing Pick the Pic and the Riddle Game on Monday.
They will continue discussing how and when people turned from God. They will be analyzing “The Fall of Man”, and discuss how all people suffer the effect of Original Sin.
