This week the students are going to work on their map skills and retrieving information from data bases and visuals. They are also going to use appropriate mathematical skills to interpret social studies information such as maps and graphs.
5/4: STUDY! Test- Thursday: Location of the Thirteen Colonies and Map and Chart Skills. Use the map on page 238 to study the location of the Thirteen Colonies.
5/8:Worksheet- “Colonial Products” (This assignment will be collected and graded! Take your time and make sure that you are answering the questions and following the directions!)

This week the students will be continuing their study of ancient Greece. They will be focusing on Sparta and Athens and why they were city-state rivals. They will be analyzing Sparta’s military and Athen’s government. Lastly, they will be discussing how Athens differed from other city-states.
5/7: Create riddles for the vocabulary words on pages 183-189. Make sure that your illustrations are completed. The class will be playing Pick the Pic and the Riddle Game.
5/8: Worksheet- Sparta: Raising an Army- Define the underlined words, read, highlight, and answer the “Review and Write” questions.
5/9: Worksheet– “Creating the Greek City-States” Define the underlined words, then read, highlight and complete the Review and Write questions.
BRING IN RESEARCH AND OTHER MATERIALS ON THE TYPE OF GOVERNMENT ANCIENT GREEK CITY-STATES USED! (MONARCHY, TYRANNY, ARISTOCRACY, DEMOCRACY, OLIGARCHY)
This week the students will continue their study of the Revolutionary War. They are going to be discussing why many Americans supported the war effort, and they will be analyzing the defeats and victories both sides faced. Lastly, the students will be analyzing why France and Spain chose to help the Patriots fight the British.
5/7: Bring in whatever materials you need to finish your “Leader Wanted Poster”. Everyone will be presenting tomorrow.
5/8: Key Terms and People on page 126. Create meanings using context clues and create illustrations. The class will be playing Pick the Pic tomorrow.
5/9: Read and Outline: “Supporting the War Effort” on pages 126-127. Then, answer the questions below:
- Why did the Continental Army begin allowing free African Americans to fight in the war?
- In what ways did women help the Patriot cause?
- In your opinion, should wealthy Patriots have been allowed to pay substitutes to fight in their place? Explain your answer.
5/10: Finish outlining “Victories and Defeats” on pages 127-130. Due Monday!
This week the students will be discussing the economic, political, and social impacts of the Great Depression. They will be analyzing the factors that led up to the Stock Market Crash and how Franklin D. Roosevelt responded to deepening economic woes. Lastly, the class will be exploring the effects the depression had on family, communities, and Europe.
5/4: STUDY! Jeopardy- Monday and Test- Tuesday: “The Roaring Twenties and The Great Depression”- Sharpen Up Book: pages 152-160. 20 Jeopardy questions are due on Monday.
5/7: The class will be playing Jeopardy today.

This week the students will be learning about the Israelites conquest of Canaan. They will be focusing on how God has always been with His people and will be identifying ways that God is with his people today. Lastly, the students will be analyzing the story of Samson, and they will be discussing ways that people can become strong in their love for God and for others.
5/9: Read and highlight pages 124-125. Answer the We Gather and We Respond questions, then answer the questions below.
- What was the source of Samson’s strength?
- What did Samson have in common with Deborah?
- In your own, explain the story of Samson and Deliah?
