Week of May 29, 2017-June 2, 2017

Reminders:

1). Spirit Day-Friday, June 2nd!

2). Grade 8 ELA Final-Wednesday, June 7th.

3). Grades 1-7 ELA Final-Monday, June 12th

Grade 5– This week, the students will be identifying vocabulary words from the biography: “Satchel Paige”. They will be creating pictures, writing sentences, and making a prediction of the story using the words.  As we read the story, the students will be answering various comprehension questions based on the story.

Tentative Homework/Testing Schedule:

Monday, May 29th 1). Memorial Day-school is closed; no homework today!

Tuesday, May 30th 1). Read for 20 minutes; no written reading log is required. 2). Be sure illustrations and sentences are completed from class. 3). Write a prediction about the story using all of the vocabulary words.

Wednesday, May 31st- 1). Finish reading “Satchel Paige”; summarize the story-please remember to only include important parts! Summarizing is not copying word for word.

Thursday, June 1st 1). No homework today. Spirit Day tomorrow!

Upcoming Exam: ELA Final-June 12th

Grade 6– This week, the students will be identifying vocabulary words from the realistic fiction story: “Mother Fletcher’s Gift”. They will be creating pictures, writing sentences, and making a prediction of the story using the words.  As we read the story, the students will be answering various comprehension questions based on the story.

Tuesday, May 30th 1). Read for 20 minutes; no written reading log is required. 2). Be sure illustrations and sentences are completed from class. 3). Write a prediction about the story using all of the vocabulary words. 4). Get Unit 5 Spelling/Vocabulary Exam signed, and make corrections.

Wednesday, May 31st- 1). Finish reading “Mother Fletcher’s Gift”; summarize the story; remember to include only important details!

Upcoming Exam: ELA Final-Monday, June 12th

Grade 7– This week, the students will be identifying vocabulary words from the folktale: “The Force of Luck”. They will be creating pictures and writing sentences with the words.  As we read the story, the students will be answering various comprehension questions based on the folktale.

Religion- This week, the students will continue working on Chapter 9: “The Coming of God’s Kingdom”.  We will be discussing how Jesus teaches us to spread the Kingdom of God and how He teaches us to pray for God’s Kingdom.

Upcoming Exam: ELA Final-Monday, June 12th

Grade 8- This week, the students will be using their Final Review Sheet to develop a game that reflects various topics learned in ELA.  They will begin by brainstorming ideas with group members.  They will create a rough draft of their game, and they will develop the game in class; to review for the final, the students will be playing their own games and each other’s games; we will also be playing Jeopardy on Tuesday, June 6th to review as well. The Final Exam is Wednesday, June 8th.
