Week of May 22, 2017-May 26, 2017

Reminders:

1). On Ascension Thursday, we will be having the May Crowning at 10:00 a.m.

2). Spirit Day will be taking place on Friday, May 26th. 

 

Grade 5– This week, the students will be identifying how to use commas to set off the words: “yes and no”, tag questions, and direct address.  After modeling how to identify the above, the students will be developing sentences of their own.  They will be engaging in the sentence game to review this topic. Next, using a picture prompt, the students will be developing a short play: they must include “yes and no”, tag questions, and direct address throughout their creative play. They will be sharing their plays with the class.

*The students will be creating their own quiz with an answer sheet; this will be graded as a quiz grade.*

Tentative Homework/Testing Schedule:

Monday, May 22nd 1). Read for 20 minutes; no written reading log is required. 2). Write four sentences using “yes” and”no” (two of each), three tag questions, and three sentences using direct address.  Follow the handout and examples from class today =).

Tuesday, May 23rd 1). Complete a written reading log. 2). Get “Preposition” Exam signed, and make corrections.

Wednesday, May 24th- 1). Create a 15 question quiz using “yes and no”, tag questions, and direct address.  You must provide an answer sheet!

Thursday, May 25th 1). No homework today!

Grade 6– This week, the students will be working in the Common Core Enriched Edition Vocabulary Workshop Books.  We will be focusing on Unit 5; the students will be reading as a class-“Continue Space Exploration, Now” (Persuasive Speech) and develop meanings of the words in context; we will then be reviewing each word’s part of speech, definition, synonyms, and antonyms; the students will then be writing sentences and illustrations with each word.  They will be engaging in the Picture and Sentence Games as a review; then, the students will be working in a group to complete “Completing the Sentence” and “Vocabulary in Context”. They will be taking an exam on this unit (Spelling/Vocabulary) on Thursday, May 25th.

Tentative Homework/Testing Schedule:

Monday, May 22nd 1). Read for 20 minutes; no written reading log is required. 2). Make sure your illustrations and sentences are completed from today based on Unit 5 “Vocabulary Workshop” words.

Tuesday, May 23rd 1). Read for 20 minutes; no written reading log is required. 2). Complete “Vocabulary Workshop” pages 65-the top of 67 (“Choosing the Right Word”, “Synonyms”, and “Antonyms”.

Wednesday, May 24th- 1). Study for your Unit 5 Vocabulary exam tomorrow! 2). Complete Writing Prompt on page 68 #1; this must be typed or neatly written.

Thursday, May 25th 1). Unit 5 Spelling/Vocabulary Exam has been moved until tomorrow! We played Jeopardy today. =)

Upcoming Exam-Unit 5 Spelling/Vocabulary-Friday, May 26th

Grade 7– This week, the students will be working in the Common Core Enriched Edition Vocabulary Workshop Books.  We will be focusing on Unit 6; the students will be reading as a class-“Nazca Lines” (Persuasive Essay) and develop meanings of the words in context; we will then be reviewing each word’s part of speech, definition, synonyms, and antonyms; the students will then be writing sentences and illustrations with each word.  They will be engaging in the Picture and Sentence Games as a review; then, the students will be working in a group to complete “Completing the Sentence” and “Vocabulary in Context”. They will be taking an exam on this unit on Thursday, May 25th.

Religion– This week, the students will be playing Jeopardy and taking an exam on Chapter 8; next, we will be focusing on Chapter 9: “The Coming of God’s Kingdom”. They will be reading and discussing how Jesus prepares for His work as God’s son and how He ushers in God’s Kingdom.

Tentative Homework/Testing Schedule:

Monday, May 22nd 1). Read for 20 minutes; no written reading log is required. 2). Make sure your illustrations and sentences are completed from today. 3). Study for Chapter 8 Religion Exam!

Tuesday, May 23rd 1). Read for 20 minutes; no written reading log is required. 2). Complete “Vocabulary Workshop” pages 75-the top of 77 (“Choosing the Right Word”, “Synonyms”, and “Antonyms”.

Wednesday, May 24th- 1). Study for your Unit 6 Spelling/Vocabulary Exam tomorrow! 2). Complete Writing Prompt on page 78 #2; this must be typed or neatly written.

Tentative Homework/Testing Schedule:

Monday, May 22nd 1). Be sure “Vocabulary Workshop” pages 65-69-“Choosing the Right Word”, “Synonyms” “Antonyms” , “Completing the Sentence”, and “Vocabulary in Context” are completed from class today. Do not complete “Writing: Words in Action”.

Tuesday, May 23rd 1). Be sure  “Writing: Words in Action” # 2 is completed from class today-on page 68.

Wednesday, May 24th- 1). 1). Be sure “Vocabulary Workshop” pages 75-79-“Choosing the Right Word”, “Synonyms” “Antonyms” , “Completing the Sentence”, and “Vocabulary in Context” are completed from class today.

Thursday, May 25th 1). Be sure  “Writing: Words in Action” # 2 is completed from class today-on page 78.
