Week of May 22, 2017-May 26, 2017

Reminders:

1). On Ascension Thursday, we will be having the May Crowning at 10:00 a.m.

2). Spirit Day will be taking place on Friday, May 26th. 

5th Grade

The students will continue their study of the events that led up to the American Revolution.  They will be analyzing the causes and the effects of the Boston Tea Party and the Intolerable Acts.  They will also discussing the significance of the First Continental Congress.  Lastly, they will be examining the issues surrounding the battles at Lexington and Concord.

5/22: Create riddles for the vocabulary words on page 288.  Make sure that you are not using definitions!  Also, make sure that your illustrations are complete because the class will be playing Pick the Pic and the Riddle Game tomorrow.

Quiz- signed and corrected.

5/24: Read:  “The Boston Tea Party” and  “The Intolerable Acts” on pages 288- 289. Then answer the questions on the worksheet.

5/25: STUDY! Test- Wednesday: “The Road to War” on pages 288-292.

5/26: STUDY!

6th Grade

The students will continue their study of ancient Greece.  They will be analyzing the different types of governments that each city-state had.  They will be comparing and contrasting the city-states of Sparta and Athens and discussing Athens differed from all the other city-states.

5/22: Create riddles for the vocabulary words on pages 183-189.  Make sure that you are not using definitions!  Also, make sure that your illustrations are complete because the class will be playing Pick the Pic and the Riddle Game tomorrow.

Test- signed and corrected.

5/23: Worksheet- “Government Begins”

5/24: Worksheet: “Sparta: Raising an Army”and  “Creating the Greek City-State”
– Define the underlined words, read and highlight, and answer the Review and Write questions.

5/25: Worksheet: “Athens: Democracy in Greece”- Define the underlined words, read and highlight, and create five questions based on the reading.

7th Grade

The students will be examining the new United States government in its early years.  They will be discussing how political parties emerged in response to concerns at the local, state, and national levels.  They will also be analyzing Washington’s roles as the first President of the United States.

5/22: Create riddles for the vocabulary words from the worksheet packet “The New Government in Operation”. Make sure that you are not using definitions!  Also, make sure that your illustrations are complete because the class will be playing Pick the Pic and the Riddle Game tomorrow.

Test- signed and corrected.

5/23: Quick Review questions are due tomorrow! Remember these questions will be collected and graded.

5/25: Student created tests and answer sheet are due typed on Friday.

8th Grade

Over the next few weeks the students will be reviewing for the final by creating a song about all they have learned in Social Studies Class this year.  They will use their Final Review Sheets as a guide, and they will include as many topics as they can in their song.  They will be working with a partner, and they will be given a detailed rubric describing what is expected of them.

Religion

This week the students will be learning about the reign of King Solomon.  They will be discussing why Solomon’s reign was time of peace and prosperity and how Solomon gained his fame from his wisdom. They will also be examining when and why the Temple in Jerusalem was built. Lastly, the students will be discussing how the psalms teach us to pray.
