Week of May 15th-19th

Reminders:

1). AMCA Spring Festival-Wednesday, May 17th-Sunday, May 21st.

 

Grade 5- This week, the students will be identifying prepositions and prepositional phrases.  They will be learning the Prepositional Song based on the beat of “Yankee Doodle”.  The students will be engaging in various activities to have a better understanding of prepositions-to be able to identify them within context and to write them within sentences.  They will be playing Jeopardy on this topic and taking an exam on it as well.

Monday, May 15th 1). Write ten sentences about your topics of choice using prepositions. Circle the preposition, underline the prepositional phrase, and box the object of the preposition.

Tuesday, May 16th 1). Be sure your prepositional sentences from class are completed! 2). Read for 20 minutes; no written reading log is required.

Wednesday, May 17th- 1). Read for 20 minutes no written reading log is required. 2). Write a short story using at least five prepositional phrases! Circle the preposition, and highlight the prepositional phrase! 3). Get Interjections Quiz signed, and make corrections.

Thursday, May 18th 1). Test tomorrow on Prepositions! Please review!

Grade 6- This week, the students will be identifying punctuating parenthetical elements.  They will be practicing how to use commas, dashes, and parenthesis within writing.  The students will be reviewing how to write sentences using these elements independently, with a partner, and as a class.

Monday, May 15th 1). Complete a written reading log.

Tuesday, May 16th 1). Complete a reading log.

Wednesday, May 17th- 1). Read for 20 minutes; no written reading log is required. 2). Review New York Ready Book pages based on “Punctuating Parenthetical Elements” for quiz tomorrow! Your quiz will be similar to the workbook questions!

Thursday, May 18th 1). Get “Punctuating Parenthetical Elements” Quiz signed, and make corrections.

Grade 7- This week, the students will be taking a quiz on misplaced and dangling modifiers.  Next, they will be working in their Ready New York CCLS  English Language Arts book and identifying figures of speech: biblical, mythological, and literary allusion.  They will also be reviewing denotation and positive and negative connotations.

Religion– This week, the students will continue working on Chapter 8: “Jesus, the Promised Messiah”. They will be working on the chapter review, playing Jeopardy, and taking an exam on this chapter.

Monday, May 15th 1). Read for 20 minutes; no written reading log is required.

Tuesday, May 16th 1). Make sure reading log is completed from class today!

Wednesday, May 17th- 1). Read for 20 minutes; no written reading log is required. 2). Get Misplaced and Dangling Modifier Quiz signed, and make corrections.

Thursday, May 18th 1).  No homework today!

Grade 8- This week, the students will be taking an exam on Verb Moods: Indicative, Imperative, Interrogative, Conditional, and Subjunctive Mood.  Next, they will be watching a video on Infinitives; they will be learning how to identify and write them as a subject, subject complement, direct object, adjective, and adverb. They will be creating exams on this topic and switching with a partner.

Monday, May 15th 1). No homework today.

Tuesday, May 16th 1). The reading log from class must be finished!

Wednesday, May 17th- 1). Get “Verb Moods” Exam signed, and make corrections.

Thursday, May 18th 1). No homework today!
