Reminders:

Grade 5- This week, the students will be playing “Basketball Jeopardy” to review Unit 7 Spelling/Vocabulary words.  They will be taking an exam on this unit as well.  Next, the students will be introduced to comma usage which will include: yes/no, tag questions, and direct address. The students will be identifying where to place the comma correctly within sentences and creating their own sentences based on various topics as well.  They will be sharing their sentences with the class. They will also be creating a short skit with a group. 

Tentative Homework/Testing Schedule:

Monday, May 14th- 1). Read for 20 minutes; no written reading log is required. 2). Study for “Unit 7 Spelling/Vocabulary” Exam.     (We will be playing “Basketball Jeopardy” today!)

Tuesday, May 15th- 1). Complete a written reading log. 

Wednesday, May 16th- 1). Read for 20 minutes; no written reading log is required 2). Review comma usage! 3). Get your “Unit 7 Spelling/Vocabulary” Exam signed, and make corrections. Enjoy the festival tonight!

Thursday, May 17th- 1). Read for 20 minutes; no written reading log is required; enjoy the festival tonight!

Grade 6- This week, the students will be playing “Basketball Jeopardy” to review Unit 7 Spelling/Vocabulary words.  They will be taking an exam on this unit as well.  Next, the students will be identifying how to punctuate parenthetical elements; this includes how to properly place commas, parenthesis, and dashes within sentences.  The students will be creating their own sentences as well, and they will be sharing them with the class.  They will be taking a quiz on this topic as well. 

*Unit 6 Writing is due on Monday! (It was the first writing prompt.)

Grade 7- This week, the students will be playing “Basketball Jeopardy” to review Unit 7 Spelling/Vocabulary words.  They will be taking an exam on this unit as well.  Next, the students will be identifying and interpreting figures of speech-specifically, allusions.  They will be focusing on literary, biblical, and mythological allusions.  The students will learn to analyze phrases and explain the meaning of each allusion.  With a partner, they will be researching the topic, and they will be listing various literary, biblical, and mythological allusions.  They will be sharing their findings with the class;  lastly, the students will be discussing eliminating wordiness and redundancy in writing.  They will be focusing on how to remove unnecessary words and phrases in writing. 

Religion- This week, the students will continue focusing on Chapter 9.  We will be discussing John the Baptist and the Kingdom of God. We will also be reviewing The Beatitudes and the meaning of each one.  Lastly, the students will be discussing the Sacraments of Initiation, reading about Saint Euphrasia, and completing the chapter review.

Grade 8- This week, the students will be playing “Basketball Jeopardy” to review Unit 7 Spelling/Vocabulary words.  They will be taking an exam on this unit as well.  Next, the students will be identifying Active and Passive Voice. In active voice, the subject of the sentence clearly performs the action. In passive voice, the subject receives the action expressed by the verb be plus the past participle of the main verb. The students will be working on identifying sentences as active or passive, and they will be learning how to change an active voice sentence into a passive one and vice versa.  They will be taking a quiz on this topic as well. The students will also be introduced to “Infinitives”, and we will continue to review the topic next week.
