Reminders:

5th Grade

This week the students will be identifying the causes and effects of the French and Indian War.  They will be discussing significant individuals such as- George Washington and Benjamin Franklin. Lastly, the students will be exploring the importance of the Albany Plan of Union in the development of the United States. 

5/14:   Make sure that your illustrations for the vocabulary words on pages 26- and 273 are completed because the class will be playing Pick the Pic tomorrow!

Test- signed and corrected.

5/15: Read- “The French and Indian War Begins” on pages 268-272.  Then answer the questions on the worksheet.

STUDY! Open Book Test- Friday: “The French and Indian War Begins” and “Britain Wins North America” on pages 268-277.

5/16: Read- “Britain Wins North America” on pages 273-277. Then answer the questions on the worksheet.

5/18: The class will be taking an open book test on “ The French and Indian War begins” and Britain Wins North America”.

6th Grade

 This week the students will be continuing their study of ancient Greece.  They will be focusing on Sparta and Athens and why they were city-state rivals.  They will be analyzing Sparta’s military and Athen’s government.  Lastly, they will be discussing how Athens differed from other city-states.

5/15: Finish outlining “Sparta: A Military Society” on pages 185-187.

5/16: Complete the worksheet- “Athens: Democracy in Greece” and “Expansion in the Aegean World”.  

5/17: STUDY! Quiz- Monday: “Sparta and Athens: City-State Rivals” on pages 183-189.

5/18: STUDY!

5/21: The class will be taking a quiz on “Sparta and Athens: City-State Rivals”.

 

7th Grade

 This week the students will continue their study of the Revolutionary War. They are going to be discussing why many Americans supported the war effort, and they will be analyzing the defeats and victories both sides faced.  Lastly, the students will be analyzing why France and Spain chose to help the Patriots fight the British.

5/14: Read and Outline: “Winter at Valley Forge” on page 132.  Then answer the questions below:

  1. Why do you think that soldiers remained at Valley Forge despite the harsh conditions?
  2. How did the Patriots’ situation at Valley Forge that winter contrast with that of the British at Philadelphia? 

5/15: STUDY! Jeopardy- Friday and Test- Monday: “The Struggle for Liberty” on pages 126-134.  20 Jeopardy questions are due on Friday.

5/16: Read and Outline: “War at Sea and in the West” on pages 133-134.

8th Grade

  This week the students will begin their study of World War II.  They will be discussing why World War II began and how it changed the lives of millions of people.  They will be analyzing how the war affected all aspects of American life. Lastly, the students will be discussing the Holocaust.

5/14:Sharpen Up– Finish outlining pages 164-166 “Origins of the War” and” The Failure of Peace”.  Then answer the  Quick Review questions on pages 165 and 166.

STUDY! Jeopardy- Thursday and Test- Friday: “World War II” Sharpen Up pages 164-169. 20 Jeopardy questions are due on Thursday

5/15:Sharpen Up- Read and Outline: “The War Ends” on pages168-169.  Then answer Quick Review #5.

Religion

  This week the students will be learning about the Israelites conquest of Canaan.  They will be focusing on how God has always been with His people and will be identifying ways that God is with his people today. Lastly, the students will be analyzing the story of Samson, and they will be discussing ways that people can become strong in their love for God and for others.
