Week of March 6th-March 10th

Reminders:

1). ALL GRADES-Book Report Projects will begin Tuesday, March 14th- Be ready to begin a project this day. 

2). Box Top Day-Tuesday, March 7th

3). Used Book Sale-Wednesday, March 8th.

 

Grade 5- This week, the students will be working in the Common Core Enriched Edition Vocabulary Workshop Books.  We will be focusing on Unit 4; the students will be reading as a class-“Wagon Train Diary” (Diary Entries) and develop meanings of the words in context; we will then be reviewing each word’s part of speech, definition, synonyms, and antonyms; the students will then be creating riddles and illustrations for each word.  They will be engaging in the “Sentence and Riddle Games” as a review; next, they will be working with a group to create a short play using the words; they will be sharing their plays with the class; lastly, the students will be engaging in a game of Jeopardy to review Unit 4. They will be taking an exam on this unit on Monday, March 13th.

Tentative Homework/Testing Schedule:

Monday, March 6th 1). Make sure riddles and illustrations based on Unit 4 words are completed. 2). Read for 20 minutes; no written reading log is required today. 3). Get Perfect Tense Quiz signed and corrected.

Tuesday, March 7th 1). Complete a written reading log. 2). Complete pages 40-41 in the Common Core Enriched Edition Vocabulary Workshop ( Match the Meaning, Synonyms, and Antonyms).

Wednesday, March 8th- 1). Complete a written reading log. 2). Complete pages 42-43 in the Common Core Enriched Edition Vocabulary Workshop ( Completing the Sentence and Word Associations).

Thursday, March 9th- 1). Read for 20 minutes; no written reading log is required. 2). Create 15 Jeopardy questions based on Unit 4 Vocabulary words. We will be playing Jeopardy tomorrow, so please review!

Upcoming Exam: Unit 4 Spelling/Vocabulary-Monday, March 13th

 

Grade 6- This week, the students will be taking a reading comprehension exam; next, they will continue working in their Ready New York CCLS English Language Arts Book. They will be identifying different types of figurative language and determining the figurative language; they will also be determining the figurative or connotative meaning of words and phrases in a literary text.  Next, they will be analyzing how lines and stanzas fit into the overall structure of a poem and contribute to the development of the theme.

Tentative Homework/Testing Schedule:

Monday, March 6th 1). Complete a written reading log.

Tuesday, March 7th 1). Complete Ready New York CCLS English Language Arts pages 132-133: “A Thunder-Storm”. 2). Get Reading Comprehension Quiz: “A Tough Decision” signed, and make corrections.

Wednesday, March 8th- 1). Complete a written reading log.

Thursday, March 9th- 1). Complete Ready New York CCLS English Language Arts pages 148-149: “I Sit by the Fire and Think”.

Grade 7- This week, the students will be working in the Common Core Enriched Edition Vocabulary Workshop Books.  We will be focusing on Unit 4; the students will be reading as a class-“Coyotes in Legend and Myth” (Informational Essay) and develop meanings of most of the words in context; we will then be reviewing each word’s part of speech, definition, synonyms, and antonyms; the students will then be creating riddles and illustrations for each word.  They will be engaging in the “Sentence and Riddle Games” as a review; next, they will be working with a group and working on “Completing the Sentence” and “Vocabulary in Context”; lastly, the students will be creating Jeopardy questions in class and engaging in a game of Jeopardy on Friday to review Unit 4.

Religion– The students will be partnering up with the 6th grade to develop board games based on Lent, the Triduum, and Easter; they will be using their Religion textbooks and research to create their games.  The students will be following a rubric during this collaborative project.

Tuesday, March 7th 1). Complete a written reading log. 2). Complete pages 55-top of 57 in the Common Core Enriched Edition Vocabulary Workshop ( Choosing the Right Word, Synonyms, and Antonyms).

Wednesday, March 8th- 1). Read for 20 minutes; no written reading log is required 2). Complete the “Writing: Words in Action-Writing Prompt #2”  in the Common Core Enriched Edition Vocabulary Workshop book. This must be typed.

Thursday, March 9th- 1). Read for 20 minutes; no written reading log is required. 2). Make sure the 20 Jeopardy questions based on Unit 4 Vocabulary words are completed. We will be playing Jeopardy tomorrow, so please review! 3). Get Writing Prompt signed!

Upcoming Exam: Unit 4 Spelling/Vocabulary-Monday, March 13th

 

Grade 8- This week, the students will be taking a reading comprehension exam; next, they will be working in their Ready New York CCLS English Language Arts Book. They will be identifying the main argument in a text and claims made to develop the main argument. They will also be identifying and evaluating reasons and evidence given to support claims, and they will be identifying evidence that isn’t related to the claim.  Next, the students will be working on an “Interim Assessment” which will resemble the New York State Exam; they will be answering multiple choice, short responses, and an extended response question.

Monday, March 6th 1). Complete a written reading log. 2). Get Reading Comprehension Quiz signed, and make corrections.

Tuesday, March 7th 1). Complete Ready New York CCLS English Language Arts pages 192-193: “from Print is Dead”.

Wednesday, March 8th- 1). Complete a written reading log.

Thursday, March 9th- 1). Make sure you have completed Ready New York CCLS English Language Arts pages 217-223: Be sure you have details in your short respond questions. (Tomorrow we will work on the Extended Response question in class.)
