Week of March 27th-March 31st

Reminders:

  1. NYS ELA STATE EXAM FOR GRADES 6 AND 8-Tuesday, March 28th-Thursday, March 30th

   2. Trimester Two Awards Ceremony will take place on Thursday, March 30th.  We will have an 8:30 a.m. Mass first; then the Awards Ceremony will take place. 

Grade 5- This week, the students will be identifying vocabulary from the play: “Wings for  the King”; they will be reading a passage titled: “Heroes and Dragons” and develop meanings as a class.  The students will take on roles in the play, and they will answer reading comprehension questions based on the events.  Lastly, the students will create 15 Jeopardy questions based on the play; they will be playing Jeopardy and taking a test on the play the following week. *Jeopardy questions are due Monday.*

Monday, March 27th 1). Complete a written reading log.  2). Make sure your sentences and symbols based on the vocabulary from “Wings for the King” are completed from class.

Tuesday, March 28th 1). Complete a written reading log.

Wednesday, March 29th- 1). Complete a written reading log. 2). Be sure that the comprehension questions from class are completed.

Thursday, March 30th- 1). Read for 20 minutes; no written reading log is required. 2). Be sure that the “Reader Response” questions on page 280 are completed.

Upcoming Exam- “Wings for the King”-Tuesday, April 4th

Grade 6- This week, the students will be taking the NYS ELA Exam.  There will be no written homework for the week; students should eat a healthy breakfast each day; don’t forget to bring in a snack for each day, too. Students should go through past Ready New York CCLS English Language Arts Book lessons and review specific terms-central idea, theme, etc. Please do not forget to bring in a few #2 sharpened pencils!

Upcoming Exam: NYS ELA Exam-Tuesday, March 28th-Thursday, March 30th

 

Grade 7- This week, the students will be identifying vocabulary from the story: “All Summer in A Day” by Ray Bradbury.  The students will be creating pictures and writing sentences for each word; they will be reading the story and answering various comprehension questions. As a post-reading activity, which will be graded, the students will be writing a news report based on events from the story; they must use vocabulary words in their writing.

Monday, March 27th 1). Read for 20 minutes; no written reading log is required. 2). Make sure symbols and sentences are completed from class. 3). Get “The Mystery of the Singing Bat” Reading Comprehension Quiz signed, and make corrections.

Tuesday, March 28th 1). Complete a written reading log.

Wednesday, March 29th- 1). Using at least five vocabulary words, write a prediction for the science fiction story-“All Summer in a Day”. 2). Read for 20 minutes; no written reading log is required.

Thursday, March 30th- 1). Complete a written reading log.
