Week of March 26th-March 30th

Reminders:

1). Free NUT Days-Monday, March 26th and Tuesday, March 27th-for reaching our goal at the Pennies for Patients Basketball Shoot-Out!

2). 7th Grade PARENTS: Report cards have been sent home on Friday, March 23rd. Please be sure the copy that Ms. McManus commented on stays home; the other MUST be signed and returned on Monday, March 26th; along with this, please be sure you send in the handout that explains report card conferences. 

3). Tuesday, March 27th is a 12:00 P.M. dismissal; report card conferences IF needed will be this day as well. 

4). We will be attending 8:30 a.m. Mass with the entire school on Wednesday, March 28th. School will be dismissed at 12:00 P.M.

5). Wishing all of our OLGCA families a very Blessed and Happy Easter! See everyone on Monday, April 9th. 

 

Grade 5- This week, the students will finish creating their “Holes Newscast Projects”; both groups must incorporate five main events from the novel and a sports, weather, and cooking segment creatively.  They will be presenting their news reports to the class this week, too; please continue to read as much as you can as well; remember the more you read, the better your reading and writing skills will be! 

*Novels for SSR must be in every day when we come back from break; you may choose a book of choice/any genre.* 

Tentative Homework Schedule:

Monday, March 26th- 1). Type out anything you need for your “Holes Newscast Project” 2). Bring in any props for your project as well! (Drawings, etc.!)

Tuesday, March 27th- 1). Complete a written reading log. 

Wednesday, March 28th– 1). No homework today! 

Thursday, March 29th– Today is Holy Thursday; school is closed. 

Friday, March 30th– Today is Good Friday; school is closed.

Grade 6- This week, the students will continue practicing for the NYS ELA Exam; they will be understanding tone and mood in literary text.  They will also be analyzing the impact of word choice on meaning and tone.  I highly suggest the students review my handout: “NYS English Language Arts Exam Outline/ Tips” during the break; please continue to read as much as you can as well; remember the more you read, the better your reading and writing skills will be! The NYS ELA Exam will take place on Wednesday, April 11th and Thursday, April 12th; Friday, April 13th will be the make-up day for the exam.

Tentative Homework Schedule:

Monday, March 26th- 1). Finish your essay from class-“Prompt #2” which can be found on page 202; this must be neatly written or typed. *Follow my handout on organizing the essay!*

Tuesday, March 27th- 1). Complete Common Core Edition Ready New York CCLS English Language Arts book pages 140-141: “Those Two Boys”. You must complete the “Close Reading” on page 140.  Use process of elimination on page 141 for the multiple choice questions, and be sure to answer the short answer response FIRST and then cite examples from the text to support your answer. 

Wednesday, March 28th– 1). No homework today!

Thursday, March 29th– Today is Holy Thursday; school is closed. 

Friday, March 30th– Today is Good Friday; school is closed.

Upcoming Exam:  NYS ELA Exam-Wednesday, April 11th and Thursday, April 12th; Friday, April 13th will be the make-up day for the exam. 

 

Grade 7- This week, the students will be playing Jeopardy to review Unit 6 Vocabulary/Spelling words;  they will be taking an exam on this Unit as well; please continue to read as much as you can over the break; remember the more you read, the better your reading and writing skills will be!

Tentative Homework/Testing Schedule:

*Common Core Enriched Edition Vocabulary Workshop pages 75-79 must be completed for Monday!*

Monday, March 26th- 1).  Create 20 Jeopardy questions for Unit 6 Vocabulary; their must be a variety of questions either written NEATLY or typed to be eligible for extra points toward your exam. 

Tuesday, March 27th- 1).  Study for “Unit 6 Vocabulary/ Spelling Exam”. 

Wednesday, March 28th– 1). No homework today! 

Thursday, March 29th– Today is Holy Thursday; school is closed. 

Friday, March 30th– Today is Good Friday; school is closed.

Upcoming Exam:  “Unit 6 Vocabulary and Spelling Exam”- Wednesday, March 28th (Exam has been moved due to the snow days.)

(Jeopardy will be on Tuesday, March 27th.)

 

Grade 8- This week, the students will continue practicing for the NYS ELA Exam; they will be working on an “Interim Assessment” focusing on multiple choice questions, short responses, and one extended response question.  I highly suggest the students review my handout: “NYS English Language Arts Exam Outline/ Tips” during the break; please continue to read as much as you can as well; remember the more you read, the better your reading and writing skills will be! The NYS ELA Exam will take place on Wednesday, April 11th and Thursday, April 12th; Friday, April 13th will be the make-up day for the exam.
