Week of March 20th-March 24th

Reminders:

1). Happy St. Joseph’s Day-Sunday, March 19th!

2). Report Card Times have been sent home; please ask your child about your time.  Report Card Conferences are taking place on Thursday, March 23rd. 

3). NYS ELA EXAM- Tuesday, March 28th-Thursday, March 30th; be sure to get plenty of rest and have a good, healthy breakfast  Bring in sharpened number two pencils and snack for each day!

 

Grade 5- This week, the students will will continue working on their “Newest Coffee Project”.  They will be finishing their final coffee project and presenting them to the class; in the middle of the week, the students will be working in their Ready New York CCLS English Language Arts books; they will be understanding literary structures in which they will recognize structural elements, including scenes and stanza- characteristic of plays and poems.  They will also explain how a series of scenes or stanzas are organized to create the structure of a particular play or poem.  Lastly, they will draw meaning from a poem’s or drama’s structure.

Monday, March 20th 1). Complete reading comprehension worksheet about Colonel George Custer; be sure to use process of elimination with the multiple choice questions; do not forget to complete the “Bonus” at the bottom! This can be typed or written neatly on looseleaf.

Tuesday, March 21st 1). 1). Complete reading comprehension worksheet: “America’s Famous Naturalist”; be sure to use process of elimination with the multiple choice questions; do not forget to complete the “Bonus” at the bottom! This can be typed or written neatly on looseleaf.

Wednesday, March 22nd- 1). Complete Ready New York CCLS English Language Arts pages 170-171: “Three Wise Old Women”; be sure to complete the “Close Reading” on page 170. Remember to write two details in your short answer response on page 171.

Thursday, March 23rd- 1). Complete a written reading log.

 

Grade 6- This week, the students will will continue working on their “Newest Coffee Project” They will be finishing their final coffee project and presenting them to the class; in the middle of the week, the students will continue practicing reading various passages and answering short/extended response questions for the NYS ELA EXAM

Monday, March 20th 1). Complete the Reading Comprehension Worksheet: “Similar Evolution: Zebras and Guinea Pigs”; be sure to use process of elimination!!

Tuesday, March 21st 1). Complete the Reading Comprehension Worksheet: “Economies are Connected”; be sure to use process of elimination!!

Wednesday, March 22nd- 1). Ready New York English Language Arts Book pages 190-192: “from The Story of My Life” and “A Remarkable Life”. Be sure to complete the Close Reading on pages 190 and 191.

Thursday, March 23rd- 1). Complete a written reading log.

Upcoming Exam: NYS ELA EXAM-Tuesday, March 28th-Thursday, March 30th

 

Grade 7- This week, the students will will continue working on their “Menu Book Report Project” They will be finishing their final project and presenting them to the class; in the middle of the week, the students will be working in their Ready New York CCLS English Language Arts books; they will be analyzing word meanings in which they will determine the figurative, connotative, and technical meanings of words and phrases as they are used in an informational text; they will also analyze the impact of specific word choice on meaning and tone.

Religion– The students will finish working with their 6th grade partners to develop board games based on Lent, the Triduum, and Easter; they will be playing their games as well.

Monday, March 20th 1). Complete reading comprehension worksheet: “A Look at Salt and Spices”; be sure to use process of elimination with the multiple choice questions; you must also complete: “What would your imaginary feast be?”This can be typed or written neatly on looseleaf. Answer the two short response questions as well.

Tuesday, March 21st 1). 1). Make sure the reading comprehension worksheet: “The Mystery of the Singing Bat” is completed; be sure to use process of elimination with the multiple choice questions; you must also complete: “Why make observations?” This can be typed or written neatly on looseleaf. Answer the two short response questions as well; make sure your summary is detailed and to the point. 2). Get yesterday’s reading comprehension packet signed, and make corrections.

Wednesday, March 22nd- 1). Complete Ready New York CCLS English Language Arts pages 90-91: “The Goliath Beetle”; be sure to complete the “Close Reading” on page 90. Remember to write two details in your short answer response on page 91.

Thursday, March 23rd- 1). No homework today!

 

Grade 8- This week, the students will will continue working on their “Menu Book Report Project”. They will be finishing their final project and presenting them to the class; in the middle of the week, the students will continue to practice for the NYS ELA EXAM. We will be working on answering multiple choice and short/extended response questions.

Monday, March 20th 1). Complete pages 1-4: “The Gift of the Flute” in the Ready New York CCLS English Language Arts Assessments Workbook; be sure to use process of elimination.

Tuesday, March 21st 1). 1). Complete pages 10-13: “Organic Foods: Yum or Yuck?” in the Ready New York CCLS English Language Arts Assessments Workbook; be sure to use process of elimination.

Wednesday, March 22nd- 1). Complete pages 27-29: “Seeing in the Third Dimension” in the Ready New York CCLS English Language Arts Assessments Workbook; be sure to use process of elimination.

Thursday, March 23rd- 1). No homework today!
