Week of March 20th to 24th

Reminders:

1). Happy St. Joseph’s Day-Sunday, March 19th!

2). Report Card Times have been sent home; please ask your child about your time.  Report Card Conferences are taking place on Thursday, March 23rd. 

3). NYS ELA EXAM- Tuesday, March 28th-Thursday, March 30th; be sure to get plenty of rest and have a good, healthy breakfast  Bring in sharpened number two pencils and snack for each day!

 

5th Grade
This week the students will continue their study of the Massachusetts Bay Colony. They will analyze the accomplishments of significant colonial leaders such as John Winthrop, and they will be discussing examples of representative government in the American colonies. Lastly the students will be discussing the political, religious, social, and economic institutions that evolved in the colonial era.

3/17: STUDY! Jeopardy- Friday and Test- Monday: “The Massachusetts Bay Colony” pages 188-193. 20 Jeopardy questions are due on Friday.

3/21: Finish the Lesson Review on page 193 #1-6.

3/22: Final draft of the news article on the Massachusetts Bay Colony is due tomorrow. This assignment will be collected and graded as a Journal Topic.

6th Grade
The class will continue their study of ancient Chinese civilizations. They will become familiar with the geography of China-focusing on how the rivers, mountains, and deserts shaped the development of China’s civilization. The class will also be examining Shang and the Zhou Dynasties.

3/17: STUDY! Jeopardy- Friday and Test- Monday: “The Birth of Chinese Civilization” pages 278-285. 20 Jeopardy questions are due on Friday.

3/21: Journal Topic- #7 on page 285. This assignment must be typed, and it will be collected and graded.

7th Grade
The students will continue their study of the struggle for liberty. They will be analyzing how many Americans, focusing on women and Free African Americans, supported the war effort. They will be examining the victories and losses the Patriots faced from 1775-1777. Lastly, the students will be discussing why France and Spain helped the Patriots during the Revolutionary War.

8th Grade
The students will continue their study of World War I. They will be discussing the events that cause the United States to enter the war (the sinking of the Lusitania and the Zimmermann Note). They will also be analyzing how America prepared their armed forces for war (Selective Service Act and Liberty Bonds). Lastly, the class will be exploring the new wartime opportunities that opened up for women and other Americans.

3/20: Create riddles for the Key Terms and People on page 725. Make sure that your illustrations are completed because the class will be playing Pick the Pic and the Riddle Game tomorrow!

3/21: Read and Outline:” The U.S. Enters World War I” on pages 725-726.

3/22: Read: “New Wartime Opportunities” on pages 728-729. Then answer the questions below:
1.What types of jobs did women perform during the war?
2.Name three factors that caused a labor shortage in the United States.
3.Name two groups of people who moved from the West and the South to meet the increased demand for labor in American industrial cities.
4.Do you think setting up the National War Labor Board was a good idea? Explain your answer.

Religion
The students will continue working with the 7th grade to develop board games based on Lent, the Triduum, and Easter; they will be playing their games as well.
