Week of January 8th-January 12th

Reminders: 

1). We have a Professional Day on Friday, January 12th; school is closed. 

2). Martin Luther King Jr. Day is Monday, January 15th; school is closed.

3). School will resume on Tuesday, January 16th.

4). Trimester Two Book Report Projects will begin on Monday, January 22nd; be sure to continue reading your novels EVERY DAY! You must be finished with your novel by this day in order to begin a project.

5). Class novels will begin after Catholic School’s Week. I will be discussing this with the classes this week.

Grade 5- This week, the students will be playing various interactive games on the smartboard to review Unit 4 Vocabulary Workshop words.  They will also be playing “Basketball Jeopardy” to review the words and taking an exam on them as well. Next, the students will be receiving a “Spelling Rules” handout that specifically explain ten major rules when it comes to spelling.  Please keep in mind, this is a review; these are rules that should have been taught in the younger grades; I would like the students to memorize the rules. 

Tentative Homework/Testing Schedule:

Monday, January 8th- 1). Create 15 Jeopardy questions based on Unit 4 words; we will be playing Jeopardy tomorrow!

Tuesday, January 9th- 1). Make sure your written reading log is completed from class today. 2). Study for “Unit 4 Spelling/Vocabulary” Exam for tomorrow!

Wednesday, January 10th- 1). Be sure your reading log is completed from today. 

Thursday, January 11th-  1).  Study the “Spelling Rules” handout/ memorize the rules, and review the examples. 2). Be sure you have completed the “Trouble-Makers” handout.  This will be reviewed on Tuesday, January 16th.

Grade 6- This week, the students will be creating a Venn diagram comparing and contrasting traditional healing to modern-day healing.  They will be using this diagram to write an essay based on this topic. They will also be playing “Basketball Jeopardy” to review the words and taking an exam on them as well. Next, the students will be receiving a “Spelling Rules” handout that specifically explain ten major rules when it comes to spelling.  Please keep in mind, this is a review; these are rules that should have been taught in the younger grades; I would like the students to memorize the rules. 

Tentative Homework/Testing Schedule:

Monday, January 8th- 1). Finish your Venn diagram; remember, if you could not find any differences, that is fine; the question asks you to find similarities OR differences.  Write/type your essay; you must use at least three vocabulary words in your answer.  

Tuesday, January 9th- 1). Make sure your written reading log is completed from class today. 2). Study for “Unit 4 Spelling/Vocabulary” Exam for tomorrow!

Wednesday, January 10th- 1). Be sure your reading log is completed from today. 2). Reprint your essay with the proper corrections. Remember the heading:

Thursday, January 11th- 1).  Study the “Spelling Rules” handout/ memorize the rules, and review  the examples. 2). Be sure you have completed the “Trouble-Makers” and “A Devious Duo” handout (front and back). These will be reviewed on Tuesday, January 16th.

Grade 7- This week, the students will be writing an essay based on Unit 4 words; they must persuade fellow mythical creatures that they are really doing good for the world. They will also be playing “Basketball Jeopardy” to review the words and taking an exam on them as well. Next, the students will be receiving a “Spelling Rules” handout that specifically explain ten major rules when it comes to spelling.  Please keep in mind, this is a review; these are rules that should have been taught in the younger grades; I would like the students to memorize the rules. 

Religion- This week, the students will be presenting their “Advent and Christmas” Children’s Book; We will also begin focusing on Chapter 5-discussing what the good news means to us. 

Tentative Homework/Testing Schedule:

Monday, January 8th- 1). Write/type your final copy of your writing from today; IF you started typing in class, you can continue this at home; just be sure you have checked writing. Remember you must use at least three vocabulary words in your argument.
