This week the students will be learning how to use the lines of longitude and latitude to determine exact locations of places on Earth. They will become familiar with the equator and the prime meridian.
The students will also begin their study of New France. They will be discussing where and why the French explored and settled in North America. They will also analyze the conflicts the French had with the English, Dutch, and Spanish. Lastly, the students will identify French explorers of the Americas and their contributions.
1/3: Longitude and Latitude: Using the map that was handed out in class, create ten coordinates using the lines of longitude and latitude. Make sure that you answer the coordinates.

This week, the students will continue their study of ancient Egypt. They will be discussing Egypt’s early rulers and the impact they had on the development of ancient Egypt. They will be analyzing religion in ancient Egypt. They will be examining the importance of the afterlife and the process of preserving the body. Lastly, the class will be exploring why and how the pyramids were built.
1/3: Create riddles for each of the vocabulary words on pages 108-119. Make sure that your illustrations are complete because the class will be playing Pick the Pic and the Riddle Game tomorrow.

The students will continue their study of immigration and urban life in the late 1800s and early 1900s. This week the students will be focusing on city life. They will be identifying the urban problems that people faced during this time period (housing, diseases caused by poor sanitation, and safety problems). Lastly, we will be discussing some of the improvements made to city life.
1/3: Create a sentence for each of the “Key Terms and People” on page 646. Make sure that your illustrations and riddles are complete. The class will be playing Pick the Pic and the Sentence and Riddle Games on Friday.
1/4: Journal Topic: Write a newspaper article describing the problems that people faced who lived in cities during the early 1900s. You must come up with solutions to the problems you mentioned. Be specific and creative! This assignment must be typed and illustrated. This is due on Friday.

The students will be discussing the effects of Original Sin. They will be exploring the reasons why God promised to send a Savior. The class will also be discussing how the first human family struggled because of Original Sin. Lastly, we will be examining the covenant God made with Noah and how the unity of the human race was lost.
