Week of January 22nd-January 26th

Reminders:

1). In class book report projects are beginning Monday, January 22nd!

2). Class Novels will begin the week of Catholic School’s Week; please have your novel in by Monday, January 29th. (Grade 5 does not have to purchase the book; I have a class set.)

3). 6-8 Math Bee will be taking place on Tuesday, January 23rd, at 1:15 P.M.

4). Pennies for Patients Kick-Off Assembly will be held on Friday, January 26th, at 1:30 p.m. in the auditorium.

5). 12:00 Mass to celebrate the beginning of Catholic School’s Week will be on Sunday, January 28th followed by our Open House.

 

Grade 5-This week, we will be reviewing Unit 5 Vocabulary words from the Common Core Enriched Edition Vocabulary Workshop book-part of speech, definition, synonyms, and antonyms and completing activities in the book for homework during the week. Also, this week, the students will be working on their Trimester Two Book Report Project.  They will be creating “The Newest Cereal” based on the novel they have read.  The front cover of the cereal box will incorporate a creative name, illustration, and “cereal shapes” based on specific aspects of the book.  A detailed summary will be placed on the left side of the box.  The right side of the box will have a list of at least ten vocabulary words located in the novel-an illustration, definition, synonym, and antonym must be incorporated. A rubric will be followed throughout this project. 

Tentative Homework Schedule:

*We will begin Holes by Louis Sachar starting next week; I do have a class set, so you do not have to purchase the book. 

*Please get your Spelling Quiz signed, and make corrections; each misspelled word must be written 3x each for Monday, January 22nd. 

Monday, January 22nd-1). Complete pages 50-51 in the Common Core Enriched Edition Vocabulary Workshop book. 2). Write each word 3X each. 3). Read for 20 minutes; no written reading log is required. 3). Make sure your sentences OR illustrations from class that you started last week are completed by Friday.  *Bring in an empty cereal box that is COVERED for tomorrow! You will have to neatly cover it; we will discuss this in class.*

Tuesday, January 23rd– 1). Complete pages 52-53 in the Common Core Enriched Edition Vocabulary Workshop book. 2). Make sure your written reading log is completed from class today.

Wednesday, January 24th-1). Type rough draft of your book report summary (Don’t forget the heading!); remember it has to fit the side of the cereal box! 2). Make sure your reading log is completed from class. 

Thursday, January 25th– 1). Finish your cereal project at home; bring it in tomorrow completed!

*A Unit 5 Take Home Exam will be sent home on Friday; this will be due on Monday, January 29th.

Religion– The students will be reviewing Chapter 5 and taking an open book Religion Exam on Thursday, January 25th. The students may use their Religion book and outlines from class.
