Week of February 6, 2017-February 10, 2017

Grade 5- This week, the students will be identifying new vocabulary words that are found in Chapters 29-39 from Holes; the students will be working with a partner to create riddles for each word. The students are now up to Part Two in the novel; they will be focusing on Chapters 29-36 this week; the students will be discussing Stanley and Zero’s friendship, and Stanley’s plan for the two of them.

Monday, February 6th- 1). Finish classwork-“Vocabulary Riddles”. 2). Make a prediction for “Part Two” of Holes; use at least three vocabulary words.

Tuesday, February 7th 1). Make sure you finish reading Chapter 30; be sure to summarize Chapters 29 and 30.

Wednesday, February 8th- 1). Make sure Chapters 31 and 32 (Holes) are completed: Answer: A). Why is Stanley angry with himself? B). What does Stanley hope for Zero? C). What does the Warden tell Mr. Pendanski to do about Zero? D). What worries Stanley most about Zero? E). What happens while Stanley is driving? F). Do you think Stanley will be able to survive? Why or why not? *IF SCHOOL IS CLOSED TOMORROW DUE TO INCLEMENT WEATHER, PLEASE BE SURE TO COMPLETE THURSDAY’S HOMEWORK.*

Thursday, February 2nd- 1). Read Chapters 33 and 34 (Holes): Answer: A). What is Stanley’s plan? B). What does Stanley see in the hole? C). What does Stanley find in the middle of the lake? D). Who did the boat once belong to?

Grade 6- This week, the students will be identifying new vocabulary words from Chapters 20-23 from Heaven is for Real; they will read the words within context and with a partner, create a definition; we will be creating a class definition in class, too. Also, we will be finishing the novel as a class this week; we will be reading as a class, and at times, the students will be reading independently; they will be summarizing, creating their own short answer questions, identifying vocabulary on their own, and listing important events in sequential order. The students will be taking an essay exam on the novel the following week; they will be able to use their vocabulary sheets and the novel for the exam.

Monday, February 6th- 1). Create riddles and write sentences with the Chapters 20-23 (Heaven is for Real) vocabulary words.

Tuesday, February 7th 1). Make sure Chapters 20 and 21 (Heaven is for Real) are completed; summarize, and create five short answer questions with answers.

Wednesday, February 8th- 1). Make sure Chapters 22 and 23 (Heaven is for Real) are completed: Answer: A). How do you think Todd feels about Pop? Give details to support your answer. B). Why did Colton finally recognize Pop? How did Todd and Sonja feel at this moment?   C). What did Colton tell Todd about the Holy Spirit?  *IF SCHOOL IS CLOSED TOMORROW DUE TO INCLEMENT WEATHER, PLEASE BE SURE TO COMPLETE THURSDAY’S HOMEWORK.*

Thursday, February 9th- 1). Read Chapters 24 and 25  (Heaven is For Real)-summarize, and create three short answer questions with answers.

Grade 7- This week, the students will finish reading The Outsiders; they will be discussing how Johnny’s death affected Ponyboy and the other characters.  The students will also be creating Jeopardy questions based on Chapters 7-12, and taking an exam on these chapters the following week.

Religion– This week, the students will be playing Jeopardy and taking an exam on Chapter 5: “Jesus Christ, the Good News”; we will also begin focusing on Chapter 6: “Holy Spirit, Helper and Guide” and discussing: “How Do I Find My Way?”; the students will be sharing stories of times they had to find their way out of a dilemma.

Monday, February 6th- 1). Finish reading Chapter 10: The Outsiders-answer: A). Do you think the rumble was worth the trouble? B). Why did Dally want to die? C). How do you think the other Greasers will end up?  2). Create 20 Jeopardy questions based on Chapter 5 (Religion); study for Jeopardy.

Tuesday, February 7th 1). After reading Chapter 11: The Outsiders-summarize the entire chapter; only include important details; you should use vocabulary in your writing, and answer-A). Why do you think Ponyboy was ill? B). Why did Randy come to visit Ponyboy when he was ill? Why did Ponyboy not care that Randy was seeing his house in a messy condition? C). Why do you think Ponyboy said he’d killed Bob and that Johnny wasn’t dead? 2). Religion-Study for Chapter 5 Religion Exam!

Wednesday, February 8th- 1). Make sure you summarize The Outsiders, and create three short answer questions.  *IF SCHOOL IS CLOSED TOMORROW DUE TO INCLEMENT WEATHER, PLEASE FINISH READING THE OUTSIDERS, AND BE SURE TO COMPLETE THURSDAY’S HOMEWORK.*

Thursday, February 9th- 1). Write a book review about The Outsiders; include your likes and dislikes; provide text based evidence to back up your opinion.

Upcoming Exams:  1). The Outsiders– Chapters 7-12-Tuesday, February 14th (Jeopardy will be on Monday, February 13th.) 

2). Religion- Chapter 5- Jeopardy Tuesday, February 14th and Exam on Wednesday, February 15th

 

Grade 8- This week, the students will be identifying vocabulary from Act II Scenes II and III from A Raisin in the Sun; they will be creating riddles and writing sentences using each word. They will be reading these scenes in class, summarizing them, and creating short answer questions based on the events.  The students will be taking a quiz on Act II Scenes II and III on Friday, February 10th.

Monday, February 6th- 1). Make sure riddles and sentences are completed from class (A Raisin in the Sun-Act II Scenes II and III); 2). Complete a reading log based on the book you are reading for Trimester Two.

Tuesday, February 7th 1). Review pages 96-109 (A Raisin in the Sun)-create five short answer questions with answers.

Wednesday, February 8th- 1). Summarize what we read today- Act IIIA Raisin in the Sun-; create three true or false questions with answers and three short answer questions.  *IF SCHOOL IS CLOSED TOMORROW DUE TO INCLEMENT WEATHER, PLEASE BE SURE TO COMPLETE THURSDAY’S HOMEWORK.*

Thursday, February 9th- 1). Study for Act II Scenes II and III- A Raisin in the Sun Quiz! Be sure to review the plot and vocabulary.
