Week of February 13th to February 17th

5th Grade

            This week the 5th grade will be having a quiz on finding the area of squares, rectangles, triangles and parallelograms on Monday. The rest of the week will be spent learning about the concept of volume and using the volume formula for finding the volume of rectangular prisms, as well as estimating and exploring what volume cube-shaped container is needed to hold objects of various sizes.

6th Grade

            This week the 6th grade will be learning about measuring, converting, and comparing customary units of length, capacity, and mass. This includes inches, feet, yards, miles, fluid ounces, cups, pints, quarts, gallons, ounces, pounds, and tons. They will be having a test on this material on Friday, and their review day will be on Thursday.  Tuesday they will be having a quiz on mean, median, mode, and range.

7th Grade

            This week the seventh grade will be finishing the chapter dealing with classifying triangles by their angles, sides, and both their angles and sides. We will also be working on identifying different kinds of congruent triangles. We will also be identifying the different parts of a circle, and creating and interpreting circle graphs. They will be having a quiz on Tuesday on labeling different types of triangles and quadrilaterals. The seventh grade will also be having the test on chapter 9 on Friday and we will review on Thursday.

8th Grade

            This week the eighth grade will be working on learning about regular, irregular, convex, and concave polygons. We will also be working on congruent parts of different polygons and triangles. They will be reviewing this material on Tuesday and having their test on Wednesday. The rest of the week will be spent on finding the perimeter, area, and missing dimensions of different polygons.

5th Grade Religion

This week the 5th grade will be beginning to read and highlight the chapter discussing the event of Pentecost with the Apostles. They will also be learning about the history of the sacrament of Confirmation.

 

Reminders:

  1. Tuesday, February 14th is a $1 Red NUT Day and a bake sale to raise money for Pennies for Patients
  2. Wednesday, February 15th is the in-school Math Bee for grades 3-5 at 1:15 in the gym.
