Week of December 4th-December 8th

Reminders:

1). Report Card Conferences will take place on Thursday, December 7th, from 12:30 P.M.-2:30 P.M. and from                6:00 P.M.-8:00 P.M.

2). School is closed on Friday, December 8th, for the Immaculate Conception.

 

Grade 5- This week, the students will be playing “Basketball Jeopardy” to review “Unit 3 Spelling/Vocabulary” words; they will also be taking an exam on this Unit.  Next, the students will be working in their Ready New York CCLS English Language Arts books.  They will be focusing on “Finding the Theme of a Story or Drama”; the focus on this lesson is: “Theme: Literature with a Message”. The students will distinguish main idea from theme by understanding that theme is the larger message of a text, summarize the theme of a text in a statement, and recognize how the main character responds to a problem or conflict.

Tentative Homework/Testing Schedule:

Monday, December 4th- 1). Read for 20 minutes; no written reading log is required. 2).  Study for “Unit 3 Spelling/Vocabulary” Exam.

Tuesday, December 5th- 1). Complete a written reading log.

Wednesday, December 6th- 1). Complete Ready New York CCLS English Language Arts book pages 72-73: “The Wise Man”; be sure to complete the “Close Reading” on page 72.  Also, use process of elimination when it comes to the multiple choice questions, and don’t forget to include two details in your written response answer. 

Thursday, December 7th- 1). No homework tonight!  2). Remember there are Report Card Conferences today and tonight!

Grade 6- (*Make sure Jeopardy questions are completed from Friday; they are due Monday.*) This week, the students will be playing “Basketball Jeopardy” to review “Unit 3 Spelling/Vocabulary” words; they will also be taking an exam on this Unit.  Next, the students will be working in their Ready New York CCLS English Language Arts books.  They will be focusing on “Analyzing Key Ideas in a Text”; the theme of this lesson is “Legendary Places”.  The students will analyze how an author develops a key individual, event, or idea in informational text through facts, examples, and anecdotes. They will also identify the differences between facts, examples, and anecdotes in informational text.

Grade 7- (*Make sure Jeopardy questions are completed from Friday; they are due Monday.*) This week, the students will be playing “Basketball Jeopardy” to review “Unit 3 Spelling/Vocabulary” words; they will also be taking an exam on this Unit.  Next, the students will be working in their Ready New York CCLS English Language Arts books.  They will be focusing on “Citing Evidence to Support Inferences”; the theme of this lesson is “The Element of Surprise”.  The students will use textual evidence, along with background knowledge, to make reasonable inferences about the characters, setting, and plot of a literary text.  They will also cite two or more pieces of textual evidence to support inferences drawn from the text. 

Religion- This week, the students will continue working on their “Advent/Christmas Children’s Book”.  They will be following the rubric throughout the project.  The students will also be practicing for the Christmas Show as well.
