1). Our Christmas Show will be taking place this Thursday, December 21st. The first show is at 10:00 a.m., and the second show is at 7:00 p.m. Please make sure you have purchased your tickets!
2). We will be having a school Mass on Friday, December 22nd. Mass will be followed by our annual “Breakfast with Santa”. Please send in the money for this event before Friday!
3). We will be dismissing at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, December 22nd, as well!

This week the students will continue their study of New Spain. They will be exploring when, where, and why the Spanish colonized North America. They will also be analyzing how the Spanish tried to maintain control of North America. Lastly, the class will be discussing the introduction of slavery into the Americas.
12/18:Read “The Spanish Borderlands” on pages 146-147 and fill in the outline that you copied in class. Then read “Ranches and Haciendas” on page 147 and answer the Review question.

12/20: The class will be taking a quiz on “New Spain”.
This week the students will continue their study of ancient Egypt. They will begin by analyzing the geography/location of Egypt. They will be discussing the importance of the Nile River and how it impacted the development of ancient Egypt. Lastly, the students will be analyzing how Egypt became united.
*Worksheet Packet- “Ancient Egypt”: The students will be reading, highlighting, and taking notes on the briefs in the packet. Once all of the briefs are completed and discussed in class, the students will be taking a quiz on the packet. They will be able to use the notes they took but not the actual packet. Take good notes! DO NOT COPY EVERYTHING!!! OUTLINING IS THE BEST WAY TO TAKE NOTES!

This week the students will begin their study of the English colonies. They will be focusing on the Southern colonies. The students will be analyzing the colony of Jamestown: the problems they faced and why the colonists’ relationship with the Indians changed. They will also be exploring what daily life was like in the Virginia colony, and they will be comparing and contrasting the life of a slave and an indentured servant. Lastly, the class will be discussing the founding of Maryland, the Carolinas, and Georgia.
12/18: Chapter Review page 65 #s 1-6 & Standardized Test Practice page 67 #s 1, 2, 3, and 6. This assignment will be collected and graded as a quiz! Take your time, and if you have to, look back at your notes!
12/19: Create riddles for the Key Terms and People on page 72.
The students will continue their study of city life in the late 1800s and early 1900s. They will be analyzing the problems crowded urban areas faced at this time: including tenements, poor sanitation, and the spread of diseases. Lastly, the class will be discussing how people such as Jacob Riis, Florence Kelley, and Jane Adams, worked to improve life in the cities.
12/18: Read and Outline: “Improving City Life” on pages 648-649.

12/20: The class will be taking a quiz on “City Life”.
Over the next few weeks, the class will be focusing on the seasons of Advent and Christmas. They will be working with a partner to create an Advent/Christmas board game. The students will be creating questions based on the important aspects of these two important seasons. The students will be following a detailed rubric that was given out in class.
